NEW THEME IMPLEMENTATION

Guys, as a heads up, we are rolling forward with the new theme implementation this week.

At some point either today, or maybe later this week, you will log in and the forum will look totally different.

There will be an adjustment time for anyone new to the theme, but I think you all will be happy with it in the long run. I've been using it for 3 months now, and am very happy with it at this point.

Please feel free to post any questions in this thread. If you cannot log in or post for some reason, I'm always available at admin (at) offroadtb.com.

The new theme is now live. If you are still seeing the old theme, you can either give it a day or you can clear your cache.

My first impression is that the background is really distracting. Could you run up the brightness to wash it out so it's more like a watermark than a painting?

Yeah I am at work. At home it's 1600x1200. Do you actually have different backgrounds for different screen sizes?

Naw, but you really only notice it if you're running a window width greater than 1600.

I kinda like it, but I've heard a few similar opinions about the background - so I can play with it if there's a common dislike for it.

I only visit the forum on an ipad, one thing I don't like is when I try to see "new posts" there is no quick link at the top. I click the forum hyper link and see where the option drops down but on an ipad you cannot click these drop down bars. I see there is another button at the bottom.

Also, can we do away with having to use the quick reply button first in order to get the reply box?

Yes, I second the quick-reply button!!! What's the point of having a quick-reply if you have to click a button for both quick and full editors?

I can look into removing the quick reply button, and replacing it with the reply box.

The bottom menus were created specifically for the touch screen, large window users. It will just be a matter of teaching yourself not to scroll up when you're done reading a thread, and instead scrolling down slightly. In the end, I think you'll be happy with the bottom menu.

I'm also missing the View Active Topic button at the top. I might get used to it at the bottom, but it's not my first choice. I don't know for sure what screen resolution my laptop is, but the background looks like a blurry picture to me. I'd like it if it was clear, but I don't like blurry anything.

It is up top, its just not easily accessable with tablet in landscape mode. You'll likely get the 'mobile' menu mode if you turn the tablet into portrait mode, which is a bit more touch-friendly. Bottom makes more sense anyways - less scrolling required after reading a thread.

The BG is supposed to be blurry. Its not supposed to be a focal point. I'm amazed at how much attention its getting.

You see the box with lines in the upper left conner of screen? Click that and the below menu will drop down and with your finger on the left side screen scroll down to active topics. Piece of cake.

Did you try it with it not being blurry?

James one thing I have noticed on the iPad is the top forums drop menu does not stay open long enough to click any item in the drop menu. This happens in either landscape or portrait

Use the bottom menus if you're on a touch screen, and you don't get the mobile menu button (top left with three horizontal lines on it) on your screen. Thats just the way this site was set up. There is not enough room in the top menu for all menu items without a drop down menu, and drop down menus are just not touch-screen friendly.

Matt, I think I only tried varying degrees of blurriness. I found less blurriness to be more distracting. Why is there so much focus on this? Is it really that bothersome?
