This coming weekend i am getting a brushguard to cut up and play with so It may change and I kind of want to use some 8 inch c channel to box the end of frame and then cut it and bend it back about 30 degrees to match flow of truck then add a top piece like this... I will keep this for a few weeks, but it will likely change. It doesnt look beefy enough for me and the welds on the stinger are crap.

Kyle,

Based on what we were talking about, sort of like this is what I was thinking... Still about 60# ($35) of material (the square cutout, not the bumper) if we use 10ga (.135"), and as long as we do stuff the hard way (shear mostly, and plasma cutter for notches), and not touch the turret punch press, the bends aren't too much $$... Bumper should weigh in around 47# in 10ga, as it sits there...

For tow points, we'll have to see where it mounts on the frame, then run a stiffener across the back side, through the middle, and run some 3/4" thick bar through the bumper; weld it on the front and back side of the bumper, as well as weld it to the stiffener...

Looks pretty good!

What about incorporating a hitch receiver into the bumper? I know you have talked about no wanting a permanently mounted winch, so that would allow you to have a bit more flexibility with a winch.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

Dude! That looks awesome!

If I did a bumper, it would be pretty much JUST like that... is this a new item for the Trailvoy Armory?

That'll work with this, in the middle, but the same height as the shackle mounts, mounted the same way (with more reinforcement)... however, I'm not sure how far back the frame crossmember is... Plus, since he's got the radiator skid, it would have to stick out enough such that the 5/8" hole is in front of the bumper, not behind it... We can talk about it tonight, over there, while looking at the thing..

It can be... This one is made specifically to work with his body lift, though... The non-body lift one would be shorter... Just on top and bottom of the frame rails, and would mount right up to the radiator guard that Kyle's got, but is not in production yet...

Yeah, I know... :finger:

Wood is cut, split, hauled, and stacked for next winter, and hunting season's a ways off... Not doing many motorcycle trips this summer, due to funds, so I hope to get both of these going in production this summer...

Haha... A quote from a movie... "Ya ever notice that when somebody says "I'm just sayin", they're never really "just sayin"?

But I gotcha... I understand... :friday:

Pretty sweet there Mike.

KMA has a solution for differing body heights. They have the vertical 'stiffeners' welded into the bumper, but include the frame C brackets in the package. You weld the C brackets on to the vertical stiffeners at your intended height to determine your body gap. You could do the welding in house based on 3 positions... (no body lift, 2" and 3" body lifts)... just leave a 3/4" or so of clearance to ensure there's no tolerance issues.

You may be able to stick your head up into my bumper during TECORE to see how the mount system works.

Also, KMA had 1/4" steel in the center of the bumper and 3/16" for the "wings" if I recall. So it's three big pieces welded together.

Awesome, thanks!

Also, you sure it isn't 3/16 in the middle, and 1/8th on the wings? 1/4, even in the middle, seems way overkill...

Thanks,
Mike

Maybe that was it. I know the center is really beefy - maybe 1/4" was the receiver stiffener. Maybe you're right though.

I'd measure it, but it's raining and I don't want to melt.

Haha... No big deal... I was just curious... With the stiffeners, 10ga will be plenty for this one...

Well it looks like we have a plan and are gonna get this started asap. Gonna go a bit thicker on metal and angles are a bit steeper when we measured. I cant wait for this. :excited: :excited:

Yep, I'm sure the 10ga would have been strong enough, but for the extra 15lbs, 7ga is probably the way to go...

After the measurements we took last night, I adjusted the angles a bit... I'm thinking (hoping) this is going to turn out really well!
