Metal bumpers etc ideas

Any special projects involving a decent amount of fab work (bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc)

Do you guys know what kind of plate and the thickness that is used like in the teebes bumper?

I can't find any info on what would be the best to use. I'm actually pricing out everything now and its looking like it will be done in the next couple months here.

Thank you hardtrailz I appreciate your help

Unfortunately they don't have that part number anymore.

Two SRS sensors are on the backside of that tube. Be cautious if you relocate them.

The two srs sensors they are easy to relocate aren't they shouldn't be too bad right?

They might be rate sensitive, and relocating to the frame rails might mess up the design. ARB goes to a lot of trouble and expense to duplicate the crumple rate of the OEM bumper in their aftermarket bumper brackets. I have no idea what my much stiffer bumper will do to my SRS sensitivity in low speed impacts. Someday we'll meet an air bag system engineer and pick his brain.

If you do relocate the SRS sensors, make sure they are attached at the same orientation to vehicle direction as stock... the accelerometers in there are uni-directional.

Bill, it's true, with our bumpers, a low speed impact would create a larger impulse because our bumpers will not crumple. I don't know how much the vehicle speed is taken into account for underspeed airbag deployment... the algorithms are probably quite complex.

I believe there's a fuse in the rear fuse box for the SRS system...

You guys are talking about like maybe creating like a switch we have for our roof lights that can turn off the airbags when you want to correct? Would something like that be easy to do??

try 76722. I mis-typed.

Good to know about the sensors. I have zero problems with disconnecting the whole system though. I do not like airbags and would rather have a custom steering wheel anyways. I only had bags blow one time and i did not even touch the bag but it bruised my arm knocking it off the steering wheel and the pass one shattered the windshield and did more damage than impact did. the cracked plastic bumper was far cheaper than the glass and the entire dash wash shifted from the explosion of the bags. I understand why they are there, but I personally would rather take my chances than getting burned by one or having it go off at an in-opportune time.

I am really liking teebes bumper more and more, but want to see the way he set up the brackets and how it bolts on since jk bumpers just have 4 bolts per side.

This is about as good of a picture as I've seen. There may be more in a thread on the OS.

Yep. I saved that one and studied the stuff on other site but cant see how they bolt on if he made jk frame horns.

Yea I remember him saying in a thread, most likely on the OS that they made JK frame horns that they welded on...

All the jk frame horn is a flat piece of steel about 5x7 with 4 holes drilled through it. I guess i need to measure my buddy's jeep again

The one thing that I'm wondering about is I want to build a front bumper that is very similar to the teebes and well my question is, how do you mount it to the frame so as to hold it???

That's the only thing that's bothering me the most because well I know how to weld and all but installing one on my bumper and making it work is turning out to be the hardest part.

I've looked at everyone's bumpers but I'm just not seeing HOW they are mounting it to the frame and of course how are they making it go inside the frame????

Teebes is done by welding a box/plate to the frame, then mounting the bumper to that.

The bumpers really do not go inside the frame.

Ok I'm understanding the mounting issue I was having thanks do you happen to have any pics of the mounting of the bumper barackets so I can have something to go off of? I've probably seen them but not known that that is what I was looking are.

My bumper attaches with the stock bumper holes. There's a 5/8" (if I recall) 8" long grade-8 bolt in there. The C brackets have a very tight tolerance to the bumper to keep the bumper from rattling at all. The 5/8" bolts were then torqued down to probably 200-300 lb-f. which bends the C bracket in slightly so the friction between frame and bumper is extremely high.

The C bracket is visible below. The C bracket was the first part of the bumper design and was welded into the bumper in order to get the perfect clearance between the body and bumper. I believe the C bracket is 1/4" thick.

took some of your advice and mocked up some lights and lowered the bumper down.
