Metal bumpers etc ideas

Any special projects involving a decent amount of fab work (bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc)

I had thought of enclosing the wings and hingings the tops like tool boxes. Tools in one side and shackles and straps in the other....
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

That's a better thing to do to a rear bumper, I think... More load carrying capacity back there, and would help distribute weight better...

Our fronts are already to heavy as is IMO

You'll see it in the pictures from the back side of the bumper... 4-5" is taken up by the frame rails... Leaves you 2.5-3.5" to play with... MAYBE the shaft part could be stored in there, but definately not the actual jack mechanism...

No no, i think you mis-read what i was talking about. I believe what your design is doing is allowing a cut through for the d-shackle mounts, no?

The piece of steel that is protruding from the bumper that the shackle mounts through, prior to the shackle should have enough room to maybe mount a threaded bolt sticking upward, where this can stick through the hilift holes and just bolt in. Maybe. Idk just a thought but im reaallyyy liking this bumper

Top of the bumper would be a cool place to have a couple shoulder studs sticking up to mount the hilift...

Inside the bumper doesn't sound very easy to access... and are there any gains to mounting it inside the bumper vs. on top of the bumper?

WOW just got to see the pics of this thing...looks good! and if you can produce enough of these to sell, and it was the right price, I am pretty sure you would have ALOT of guys lining up to get one!
Lift, shocks, wheels and tires installed...need some armor now.

Done! Left the office at 9PM...

Exactly as we suspected... It wouldn't look right with a taller bumper, but this bumper is about the height that a non-body-lifted TB would take...

After looking at it, we may end up doing 2" tall filler pieces along both sides, and he may end up doing an SS grill, so the grill will go down 2" farther, like the newer LT versions...

Painted with cheap spray paint just to coat it. Will get some more mods and a real finish soon.

I do have to give a huge THANKS to Mike for this. I pretty much only bought material, so cost was incrediblefor us to give it a try.

And the turn-around time was incredible...from a PM Monday asking about getting me some steel to designing and having a bumper built and on my truck on Thursday. I dont think anyone has a non-factory bumper that can compare. I could not have ordered one and had it delivered and on by now.

really well done. I do want to give my 2 cents. is there a way to make the center part of the bumper not so big. It just seems a tad over kill. Could it be possible to have the bumper start that big at the body, and have it narrow out a bit towards the front of the bumper. It would probably improve aerodynamics a bit too. It just seems a bit overly boxy to me. But for a super strong simple design, its freakin bad ass!

Not really understanding...You mean have the top plate at an angle? It is only 8 inches tall and the frame is 6...

if you look at that bumper....all the plates taper a bit making the front of the bumper (the part you would bump stuff with) more narrow then the back of the bumper (where it bolts to, and meets the body of the truck).

hopefully now you guys can see what I mean by a less boxy look.

Dude, that is perfect. It's exactly what I want to finish off my front end. And with that configuration, I think some 1" lift blocks might give that lil extra height I want without relocating anything. I'd like to see that done for a rear bumper too........

pushes it out further and hurts approach angle. I barely lost any if i did.

Cant really tell how much room were working with on the top there. Is there enough to bolt down a winch plate? Or inside with the farelead in the middle of the d-shackles? Or is that front cross bar right up against it?

Also maybe a small cutout on either side for a 4" offroad light?

I think something like that one pictured above would work out well for the Envoys since our center grill drops down lower then the lights.

I would love to see if it was possible to cut out a couple of holes for some additional light. For instance, I enjoy having the cornering lights on the Envoy, and I would love to be able to incorporate them into the design.
