You could make the fog holes on either side of the receiver a little larger? That is, if you no longer intend on using fogs...

I was being lazy - I really meant long-reach needlenose pliers. HF has this set for working on deeply recessed hoses, but their normal long-reach needlenose is only about $6. With the ubiquitous 20% off coupon they'd be $5.
