cheapest radiator skid ever?

Any special projects involving a decent amount of fab work (bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc)

Recycled 1/4 inch plate.
Bridge is welded to bumper, hidden by bumper cover.
Plate is bolted to bridge at front, MDB oil pan skid at rear.

My apologies to BartonMD for putting this kind of redneck hackery in the same forum that includes his work.

Apparently you haven't seen the thread where someone used a lawn mower engine cover to build their skid plate.
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.

That was me, and it was on our '91 Isuzu Impulse SCCA rally car, in college. The rest of the underbody skids were cut up and supported shelving from a Kmart that was closing.

I like the diamond plate look. Do you have any finished pics? (I'm assuming it wasn't done by the jack and chunk of concrete holding it up.)

Actually, the jack and the block were just a simulated obstacle to test the strength of the skid. I was aiming for something that would support the weight of the front end, static anyways. I reckon I might spray it black at some point, but except for that or any repairs that might be needed at some point, it's done.

Btw... the welding was done with a Lincoln Electric Weld Pack 140 HD, and I gotta say that thing is the cat's pajamas!

You can run my Miller 252 if you're in town. :finger:

It's adequate for that thickness and duty cycle of welding, but I don't think I've ever heard a 120V 130-140A mini-welder referred to as anything particularly good... Run any 220V welder and see what you think about it.

Can't wait to run the 220v Clark 180EN I picked up after Xmas but it's been f'en cold to work in the unheated garage. LOL

Just a couple more pics without stuff in the way...
If i were doing this again, I probably would have just cut the front ears into the plate rather than weld on separate pieces lke I did, but that would have been just a little less fun.

The red bolts attaching the piece are recycled from my 2000 Saturn L100 (Special Edition).
