Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Busy Weekend...

Any special projects involving a decent amount of fab work (bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc)

by bartonmd » Sun Sep 09, 2012 10:32 pm

You'll all be happy to know that AJ (Hotness) has taken possession of the "Let's see if we can make a bumper" bumper, but it's... uh... Had some modifications... AJ also has a "Mikepeters" style tire carrier with a Hi-Lift mount. As of 9PM on Sunday evening, he's on his way back to Chicago. He got here noon on Saturday. Tire carrier done Saturday, and bumper done today.

Yeah, it was made more by the fact that I came home from work early Friday, sick, and was mostly OK by Saturday morning, but I was still sweating easier than normal. By Sunday, I was fine, but that was a TON of work on Sunday!

Yeah, I almost just scrapped it and gave him that price on a new bumper, but I didn't want to scrap the ORIGINAL bumper... but I also didn't want it running around like it was, any more, either...

Is that as far as the tire carrier goes down? At first I thought that was the 'up' position and you were trying something a little different.

(Mike, do you want this in the Fab section? or in your Vendor section?)

I figured here was the place for it... Not really advertizing the bumper modificaiton to sell or anything. Just the weekend's work.

That's as far as it goes down. The bottom pin comes out to remove it completely, if needed, but it doesn't have a "flat" setting. To do that, like the one I made for Kyle (that's now mine, since he has his rear bumper), it needs more for-aft room than is available by welding it to the top of the receiver like this (and still keeping the bumper cover in 1 piece).

Me too, it's great. People have used parts from all over the place, it's a great community here for that kind of stuff.
