Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

plate bumper build... or another way to waste tons of time.

Any special projects involving a decent amount of fab work (bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc)

Lets hear it fellas, what do you guys think?
I had to use tape because I couldn't get a flat plate to fit. It would need to twist a bit. Wouldn't be hard to do at all.
I used tape to cover that whole side of the bumper so it would look consistent and coloring wouldn't mess with the perception of the overall look.

I like it, think it gives the whole shape of the bumper a nice flow.

Exactly. I think it just flows better with that piece on there. It looks like one cohesive piece, instead of a center piece, then side pieces. Maybe that's my style, and if it's not yours, and you want it like it is, it's obviously your choice. I don't think it looks bad as it is, but I like it better with the extra piece, I think.

I have to say if it was mine I'd add the pieces. Either way an amazing piece of art!

I can't really tell from the pics which way I like best.
If you look at the tape job and say "no way", then don't worry about it.
If you say "hmmm that does look pretty good" then maybe take the next step and cut out the pieces and tack them lightly in place.
That might give you a better idea of which way to go.

Is that how you did it when you built you fabricated your custom bumpers?

I've been staring at the pics this whole weekend while I was in Texas at the race and I can't make myself like it... not even a little bit. Guess you guys are gonna have to make fun of me at TECORE in the spring. :finger:

I've just got a few small things to do and then I'm probably going to be bedlining it tonight.

I've spent the last few days getting all the little stuff finished up then I started bedlining it. I used duplicolors Bed Armor. It's held up well on the tail light gaurds and the rocker covers so I figured I'd give it a go on the bumper. The bumper has about 4 or 5 coats now and i'm just giving it some extra cure time in the garage where it's 75 degrees instead of outside where it's 40. I'll bolt it on in the morning before the trip down to Jersey.

Measurements to the lower front edge of the front fender are 38" with no armor, 37 5/8" with bumper, 37 3/8" with bumper and winch. I don't have measurements with all the skids on yet.

I'll try to get some pics before it gets dirty.

Here it is all finished up, I didn't get a picture while it was clean but I suppose it is what it is. I went ahead and drilled a couple small holes in the bumper to drain the water and it seems to do the job pretty alright. The ride is worlds better with all the weight up there. Even managed to get the winch wired up. Not too bad for some cobbled together piece of shit if I do say so myself. I even had a fella ask me where I bought it the other day lol
I cut off the flange on my radiator skid tonight so hopefully all the skids will be back on in a few days.
