Tire Gate?

Any special projects involving a decent amount of fab work (bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc)

by DBoregon » Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:19 pm

Hey guys,
I am looking into purchasing a tiregate to mount my full size spare on. I just have it sitting in the back of the truck now. Does anyone own one and have any reviews? Is it worth the money? Thanks

For that kind of money, buy a whole bumper from MDB.

look at CBI Offroad. Hitch mounted fold down carriers, mostly.

I wish I had the money for Bartons bumper. Another thing you could do it Curts tire carrier, I know some have modded it to fold down.

I bought the first one available in CA through 4 Wheel Parts when they came out. Reviewed it at trailvoy. http://forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.php?t=27578 Used it for years, then finally wanted a couple of mods so I had a welder slice it in half and weld the upper part to the rear bumper inner reinforcing bracketry. But I now have a Mike Barton rear bumper on order, and if you can wait for a bit, I'll be selling this assembly.

As modified: tucked in tighter, moved to the left a few inches and lowered. OEM receiver hitch available again. Lost a bunch of weight.

I was asking a lot of these same questions about a year ago after weeks of reading and thinking about what might work best, here's what I went with

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2244&hilit=hitch+mounted+spare

I'd recommend it.

General Grabber LT285/75-16 red label. Got them the first month that size started shipping. Would replace them with a new set but they're now on backorder. :wallbash:
