Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

First KMA Envoy bumper suggestions

Any special projects involving a decent amount of fab work (bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc)

by bartonmd » Sat Jan 22, 2011 7:33 am

Wait... A company who makes bumpers for a living, and knew for a couple weeks before you got there that they were going to make a bumper for you, didn't order the steel before you got there?

Steel, especially 3/16 and 1/4, is almost always in stock at the steel houses, and is nearly always a "next day" delivery...

I smell "excuse"...

Having said that, for what you're paying (or not paying) for the bumper under their normal prices, I'd be OK with another few days without my ride...

I imagine that KMA doesn't want to keep their working capital tied up in steel... however, a week delay for steel does seem strange. I guess they order bulk for all of their bumpers - maybe a large load could get delayed that long?

Jimbo, despite the delay, it sounds like its going faster than many other projects that this group has undertaken. Good luck bro.

I am excited :excited: but have already expressed a concern about the area between the tire and side wing of the bumper. I think it is a little too close should I decide to go up tire sizes. 265X70X17's right now.

Just have them cut the wing off straight, tangent to the top of their curve.

Looks pretty nice overall though.

What's the hole in the side wing for?

I assume the hole is either for a reflector or a cornering light. Those Envoys and their fancy cornering lights...

:poke: :flower:

Yes the hole is for a cornering light..... (I know I'm setting myself up for this one). It is a daily driver so I figured it was there I might as well use it. I'm putting in a pair of 2" Solstice Solo Prime Black 10-Watt LED 40° Wide Beam in that cut out. I may try to wire it so that I can actively use them on trails but it will depend on how bright they actually are.

Hey that's really nice looking! The bumper itself looks great, not too bulky, and sized right it seems!

Looks like it will easily fit one of the KMA radiator skids from Mike too.

Get ready for your paint to start showing rust and then not only will they not fix the problem but they will ignore you after 3 attempts to get in touch with them. Kind of a slap in the face when you spend 900 dollars with them. oh yea and they could have sold 3 more bumpers to my friends but they went other routes after hearing about the slow turn around time and terrible customer service.

See, I don't consider that a big deal, unless you paid extra to get it powder coated or something... If it's just regular paint, it's going to get rock chips and stuff, and it's going to rust... I just re-coated my bumper and sliders, yesterday, because they were rock/ice chipped after ~7 months. This was with (2) thick coats of brush-on Rustoleum Hammered finish... 70mph rocks against flat steel are just going to put chips in it (possibly even with powder coat), and those chips are going to rust... A REAL automotive primer/base/clear paint will help with that, but it'll also cost $250 for the paint job...

Me? I'll take 1/3 of a $10 quart of paint, and an hour, twice a year, to keep it up...

:Iagree:

Standard paint can't be expected to hold up on a front bumper. Heck, even if you get a stock bumper professionally repainted, it will begin to show rock chips quicker than you'd expect.

Exactly! People just don't notice it because the plastic doesn't rust... The plastic also absorbs some of the shock from the rocks, so the plastic bumper won't chip as bad as a metal one, even...
