Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

OEM Spare Tire Carriers

Any special projects involving a decent amount of fab work (bumpers, sliders, roof racks, etc)

I was at the local junkyard the other day and it got me thinking....
The swinging spare tire carriers that came with blazers and rodeos... could possibly work on the trailvoys.
It seemed like it was two bolts around the tail lights holding it on.
They had at least 7 trucks or so with these carriers and I bet I could pick one up cheap and powdercoat it to clean it up
It seems like all you would have to do is change the bolt pattern on them and itd be good to go. Just worried about clearing the part that sticks out on the rear bumper. You might not be able to go very large with a spare
I'm thinking about going this week again and getting some measurements

The problem being it mounts below the tail light... and we just have plastic there.

But by all means, it can be worked around... just depends on how unique you want to be and how much money you want to throw at it.

Thanks, I was looking for a picture like that.
I think the bottom mount could just be extended to go around the tail light. In the end, it may end up costing as much as the fold down hitch carriers to modify it to my needs, but it would be a hell of a lot cheaper then the hitchgate carrier

I'm with you James. I've thought about the same thing, I know blazer's jimmy's, I think even some of the isuzu trucks and a couple others had spare tire carrier's like that. I don't know how exactly we'd be able to mount it. But I'd be willing to buy one and try to fit it up if someone would be willing to do the same, we could work together-ish.

i have thought about it since i got the truck... i was worried about not being enough support there to hold the weight of the tire... i dont know if the blazer/jimmy had any extra reinforcements there or not...

Yes, pretty much anything that has a spare tire mount like that has support behind the sheet metal... Plus, our sheet metal is a lot thinner than sheet metal used to be...
