Upstate NY newbie

Hey everyone! My name is Greg, I'm local to the Saratoga area of NY and just recently picked up a used 2006 trailblazer inline6 4wD (sort of...) With 135xxx miles on her For $2500. I say she's only sort of a 4wD as for some reason the previous owner had the awful idea to remove the 4wD shaft rather than replace some sort of switch or sensor? That's a big part of why I'm here, a previous Saturn guy I don't have much experience working on larger vehicles and have no clue where to go next in regards to getting this thing where I want it. On top of the 4wD issue I would eventually like to get set up with a lift and some armor for some light to moderate trails. I hope to get to know everyone here and look forward to learning!

without more information or pictures its hard to tell whats going on. What some people do is they cap off the front hubs and tcase to go RWD when something up front happens that they can't afford to fix or don't know how to fix. RWD all the time isn't an issue if you have good tires, but i heard this winter is going to be shit. Also make sure the front end suspension components are good too if you stay RWD. The darting is real dangerous on these trucks....
