Hub nuts

I picked up a front diff seal and ordered front hubs and ball joints. figuered i would change oil in the diffs and tc at the same time. I was reading the crappy Haynes manual to make sure i bought enough fluids and see what they say about removing cv shafts. anyway it states to remove and discard the hub nuts and install new nuts. I have never replaced them on trucks,quads,trailers that I've worked on. just curious as to why?

Supposedly, they are one-time use only lock nuts. Meaning that they are designed to stay tight once you get them where you want them.

Both of mine have been a chore to remove and install every single time I've done something. I guess it could be a liability issue as well.

They are tension nuts or whatever they are called and supposedly do not hold as well with subsequent installs, but I am still using the stock ones after dozens of CV removals and installs.

some places call them "prevailing torque nuts" or "crimp nuts". they are squeezed or bent in a little bit to make them bite the bolt threads harder. like the guys above said, probably just a liability, or worried that after several removals and installs the nuts will lose their "crimp".
