CV popping in and out

Last year when I rebuilt my disconnect, I replaced the shaft(rebuilt one from Detroit axle) as well because the old one was doing this too. This one has done it since day one.

Any thoughts as to what is causing this? How to fix? It doesn't drive any different, that u can tell.

Looks like all the movement is in the tripot, which is normal, is the nut in on the CV torqued down at the spindle? The CV joint at the spindle doesn't have any plunge... So when assembled it shouldn't do that.

If was torqued to spec when I put it all together. I'm still waiting on my wheels, so it's been on stands for a week or so. I should have some time this weekend to double check its torqued correctly.

So you're saying, movement at the tripot is normal, but not by the hub.?

If it's bolted together it shouldn't do that at all, might get a 1/4" play trying to move it like you are in that video.
If it's not bolted together that's completely normal.

And yes, the tripot can plunge, the joint at the hub (the actual CV) can't really.

The CV "nucleus ball" (for lack of a better term) might have some amount of play on its splines to the shaft. But that seems excessive. Although, I can't see it really hurting anything as long as the CV nucleus stays centered on the CV housing.
