Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

upgrade to g80

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

My 2006 trailblazer is the standard short wheelbase i6 with the 3:42 limited slip 8.0 rear end. I was wondering if the models with the 8.0 that came with the G80 had the same gear ratio so therefore I could just swap chunks out and put the G80 in mine? I've worked on the internals of a rear end before so it won't be a first time working with them I just wanted some advice/guidance from members here that might know more about it. Thanks in advance.

Hmm never seen a LSD in a 8.0". Why not swap in the stronger 3.42 8.6" with G80? There bolt in and yes they have the same gear ratios, 3.42, 3.73, 4.10, why would they bet different? Check out www.car-parts.com

You could swap to a 8.0 G80 rear, just move your ring gear over. However, for the cost, you might be more beneficial in moving to an 8.6 rear with a 3.42 G80 combo already in it, and then just part with yours as most places won't part with just the carrier from an intact rear. The 3.42s suck, bad, so be sure this is the route you want to go before committing, save yourself some cash in the long run if you ever plan to up the gear ratio.

That being said, you're the first 8.0 I've heard of with the G86 in it.

Yeah I kno its weird that I got the G86 in it but what makes it difficult to just swap to a 8.6 is they changed the abs system in 2006 so I have to find that specific type rearend. That's why I wanted to just see if I could just get the G80 and swap internals.
And yes I do wanna put 3:73 in it but I don't want to have to go through the aggravation of changing the front diff bc of how aggravating it is. So therefore id whether just use the 3:42 G80 right bnow and then when I decide to take on the front diff I can change the ring and pinion in the rear. But for me to just be pulling 265x75x16s the 3:42 will do fine for now.

For the 8.6" rear all you have to do is just get a 06+ and you be fine.
