Rear diff gear swap question

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

Thanks for the input Jeff and would you know where that stamp is exactly? Another question, is it safe to say the V8s came stock with the 8.6? And would the 9.5 bolt up to my TB? I have a couple options, one being a friend of a friend just totaled his SS and I can get it cheap cheap and not have to drive 2 hours tho the nearest pick-a-part.. Second being pick-a-part

Needs to be 06+ and yes the 9.5 will bolt up, only two things IIRC but check out HARDTRAILZ build for details. You have to shorten the drive shaft and you need some adapter on the u joint were connects the shaft to the axle.
Edit: The u joints are different and requires a Precision #447 from Napa.

And I believe the front diff will be compatible with your vehicle. I actually put a front diff from the 2007 SS into my 2004 TB.

I better just fimd the 8.6 rear and do the SS front for sure. Less hassle I would think

Wait, you guys are saying the SS front diff is a direct swap?!?! That thing has like 400hp! That front diff must be SOLID! Are you guys sure it'll fit? Do they have a locker?

It averages out with the rear axle. 400hp up front and 300hp at the rear gives my truck around 350hp now... :thumleft:

Honestly I didn't see any difference between them. It looks like exactly the same housing, it takes the same axle shafts, and the replacement seals were the same part numbers.

The front diff is the same, but the SS uses a torsen transfer case. The torsen is designed to not send 50% of the torque forward. It also doesn't have a low range.

Some of the better prices I found and though they specialize in FJ's, they had a good selection and helpful staff.

Forget I said this. As of now, my order was not filled, they no longer have Nitro Gear available in 4:56's, only could offer 3:42's...
