How much to shorten driveshaft with SS rear

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

I have searched and all I can come up with is on Hardtrailz build. 1.25" on his...That being said, he has more lift than I will have.
I am doing Mark's 2.5" lift, with 285/75/16's. Would that measurement be in the ballpark for me? Whats the best way to measure how much I need to shorten?

I had 33s when I did it. Not as much lift either. inch to 1.25 is prolly bout right, but I did have extended control arms. I could just barely get it all together before shortening the shaft. I know Hotness texted me he can not even put his shaft in his rear  without getting his shaft shortened :coffee2: since he swapped in a SS rearend recently.

You went significantly further to the rear with your extention...

Original question... I paid 75 or 95 I think. Under 100 for shortened and balanced.

Ujoint is $30ish I think

Haha yes...it was in response to Kyles remark about Hotness's rear.
That sounds bad too doesn't it...

Is shortening the drive shaft typically required when swapping to a SS rear?

From what I've read yes, somewhere between 1.25" and 1.5". Although Regulator said his fit...
I'm out of town for a few days, hopefully Sunday I'll be able to install mine and I'll let ya know if mine fits or not.

Regulator moved his axle way back, and he runs skyjacker springs giving him maximum lift. Not to mention, that pervert was probably just bragging about getting his shaft into his rear. Lol
I had to shorten my driveshaft when I changed my transmission and transfercase.
It's not how fast you go. It's how quick you get there. Lifted TBSS Build

I paid $90 for shorten and balance. Plus u joint. Best way to know how short to go is install the diff and measure. I believe I took off 1.5" and it fits great.

I guess what I was trying to ask is where to measure from. Center to center, end to end...bla bla

1.5" seems to be the ticket though, I'll go with that.

I've talked to two different places around here. Both were the same at $110 plus u-joints.
Fleet Pride told me to leave my stock u-joints in rather than putting in cheap Chinese junk. Told me theirs are better and the same price. We'll see....

My drive shaft place also recommended leaving my OEM U joints. He said they were high quality Saginaw joints. Hotness uses the same guy I do. I'm not sure if he had new U joints installed or not.
2008 Trailblazer SS! I started with a 4L80E transmission and 246 electric shift transfercase. Gotta start before you can finsih!

No I left factory ones on as well. To measure this is the best way I can explain. On the end of the shaft when you take it out u can see where it is shiny from sliding in and out of the transfer case. I just installed the shaft to the new rear diff and held it up in place. Then measure how far from the transfer case yolk to the shiny spot on the shaft. That's how much you remove. I don't know if that made any sense.
