Rebuilding 8.6 rear Axle

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

After receiving the rear axle i decided first to sand blast all the rust off the axle. Wow what a difference..
Came from this:

Axle housing will be painted now and after that i´m looking at the axle shaft, wheel bearings and the other stuff.. I have decided to go with the ARB RD84 air locker but i must collect some money. In the last picture you could see the new side rails for the roof rack carrier, but that´s another story. My TB needs more attention before snow comes to prevent rust on the frame. Will do a complete body cavity protection, that will be a lot of work. So i think the axle will go in after that all. Have to order some wheel bearings, seals and so on.

Hope you guy´s like the pictures.

The 8.6 is pretty easy to work on. No case spreader required to pull the carrier.

Are you going to change gears while you have it out? Now is definitely the time.
