New to gearing whats my options?

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

So a gt5 rear from a ext ? Does year of the trucks matter?

Yes the years matter. For anyone with a <2005 can go with any of the rear ends. Those of us with >2006, should have a 2006 or newer rear end to save a lot of other work.

Which is why it was easier for me to find a stronger SS rear w 410s than an 06 or newer 8.6.

The older ones dont have the speed sensors on each side of rear for stabiltrak n abs.

If I remember correctly even us 06-09 can use the 02-05 axle right? and all we would have to do is get a reflash on our pcm for the codes, right?

What codes? You lose stabilitrak and abs.

I think if you don't have the ABS sensors connected on the newer models it throws a code/ABS light.

Kyle, on your SS rear, was it a direct bolt swap or did you have to do some mods to the driveshaft etc? I seem to recall you had to do a little more than a normal swap. Was that due to the different rear or to the amount of lift?

I had to shorten the driveshaft even w my longer control arms.

If you swap only the rear and don't re-gear the front, say goodbye to your transfer case and all associated parts.

I can't tell you much about the mechanics of it. But what I can tell you is that a friend of mine did that in his 4Runner. The second he put it into drive, pop goes his front u-joints and something in his T-case snapped too.

Long story short: $2150 in repairs. He had to replace the T-case

I had front 373 and rear 410 for a few weeks. Even couple hundred highway miles. Its not a problem unless you engage 4x4.
