Gordinho80's Rear Axle Upgrade

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

I imagine the carrier broke most of the way initially. The WEAR is surely from the 6+ hour drive, but I don't imagine much else got broken, but I could be wrong.

it is a good excuse to upgrade!
It would have been better for Mario if he was pulling up in his drive from his way back from work but at least he made it home without a huge tow/repair bill.

I completely agree. Same choice I would have made, no tow bill, and a good excuse to upgrade. But I have a feeling those axles spinning down the road for that long kicking the side gears around helped mulch up those metal chuncks a bit.

Definitely a good thing it was disc brake. I did this to the rearend in my old firebird back in highschool, and both axles poped out while towing it home. I was pulling it and my buddy was steering, I didn't notice I was dragging it until one of the tires/axle asseblies past me.

Its a partial upgrade at this time, as I will still have 3.42s. But 4.10s are a very likely upgrade in the future, and I would already have the 8.6" diff and the Powertrax No Slip...

A bit more "fine grind" than my incident, but I had only about 20 miles on the drive down mountain to Montrose.

No pics... but back up and running! Thanks again to Nick for the axle! Thanks especially to Ben for bringing down to CT for me, even though his meeting was cancelled.

Took a little longer to get this one in place, but I'm rolling again! Can't wait to try out the locker!
