Welded Rear end

How practical is a welded rear end? I've been scouring the internet or an answer but cannot find any real information in coherent English. All the other forums' threads about it are full of garbage and arguments over welders. So, i thought id turn here for some real information in real english. I've been alluded to that there is multiple ways to weld a rear end. Also i have been led to believe that there is a way to weld up an open rear so it still slips in corners and doesn't tear up your tires on the street. Also i have read that no matter which way you do it, the rear tires will still spin at the same speeds no matter what and can be dangerous on the street and bad for your tires and axles.

Well, what do you guys know about the topic?

Offroad use only. Rough on tires n such. I would not do it.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

I'd like to see the way to weld up an open rear so that it still slips in the corners... They You can weld them by just filling up a couple of the gear valleys on the side gears, so it has almost a turn of one wheel free before it binds on the weld, but that's REALLY hard on the carrier and gears, and they will grenade a ton easier from that, compared to just welding the side gears, solid... Plus, you only get that turn if you're locked on it the other direction... If you're already locked in that direction, you get no differential rotation.

You'll scrub the tires in a turn if you weld it, there's no way around that.

I know some guys who DD welded rear ends. A properly done one is very strong. You'll go through tires faster though.

Welding the side gears solid seems to be the most common way. And thats what i figured fishsticks, you can't avoid tire scrub,

My toyota was spooled, and it was a trailered rig other than running on the street trail to trail. Its great for offroad, and has no real handling issues on the street. Chirping in corners and tire wear are the main issues. (But, I have the same issues with my detroit.)
