CV boot that stays together?

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

Well seeing as i am in MN and we use excessive ammounts of salt and sand even when there is no snow on the roads here and rebuilding them I have found never works well unless it is in the summer or fall months i ordered two silicone boots for the inners and I will be picking up some reman shafts from NAPA this week unless you guys think i should try a different brand of shafts?

Apparently Reilley's sells a half shaft that still uses the 5 rib boot.

Well I went ahead and ordered the Silicone ones. I get a really good discount at NAPA so if the inners are the only problem then ill just get the Remans from them unless there are issues i dont know about other then that? :?

It seems to be the way to go for now, only one member had commented that they had problems with the silicone boot.

Well a little update from me. I got the new CV boots yesterday, I picked up some cardones from napa again and tore those appart the day before while waiting for parts they are both put back together now and i will be installing them at the shop after we close tonight

Well last night i had the pleasure of trying to do this. I just took my diff out about a month or two ago and rebuilt it and could not get the driverside cv to un attach itself from the diff. so when i finally got it out by splitting the diff open i replaced both cvs as the clip ended up ovaling itself. Well when i went to replace the CV last night what do you think happened? Got the driverside done by leaving the female end of the CV on the diff and replacing the male end with a new shaft and boot getting those clamps on was a nightmare! But it is all assembled and in the car and seems to be working very well.

My Driver is starting to rip again after only 2k on it did better than the first with only 400 miles. Any ideas 88s and marks old 2.5 in all of mikes front armor no winch yet

Mine have about 700 miles on them. They seem to be doing very well with the aftermarket boot

I got mine from NAPA and they have the 5 ribs. 1200 miles and 8 trails, no slung grease yet.

My cv's....one o.e. and one cardone w both mark's lifts...lots of miles on 2.5 and bout 8,000 on new 3.0 lifts don't have issues. Cardone has 130,000 less miles and does now...past 500 miles...have a pencil sized hole from something poking it, but boots have not cracked or slipped. I have a bit more Offroad miles than most as well. My only issue is a log taking out original cv's boot when it tore abs wiring in half.

they've always worked for me.

Have you tried reinstalling and using a hose clamp and tightening it down after you clean all the grease off the two surfaces?

Are the silicone boots still holding up? I've got about 5k on 3" lift on Monroe struts and had the inside boot split on a reman axle.

I have one with a tear that is spraying grease everywhere. Hope it lasts till I get home and can take it out.

From the description Kyle gave me the remans he is getting are good. Most of the remans I've seen have three ribs and split quickly. It's why I went the aftermarket boot route. I'll update this thread should the silicone boots give up on me.
