Broke Splined Disconnect Housing

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

This weekend I thought it would be a good idea to attempt to rebuild my disconnect with the AWD sleeve. Well, after hours of trying to get the housing off the oil pan, this happened.

So, any thoughts on how to get the rest of it out?

Drill to weaken it. Chisel. Nothing more elegant is likely to work.

Just make sure you have a new housing before you pry that one out because u will not be able to drive it without the intermediate shaft being supported

If you can remove the intermediate shaft, you may be able to hook it from the back side with a bearing attachment and a slide hammer.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I wont even get to see my truck until Saturday. In the mean time I'll be hunting down a new housing.

Has anybody found a good way to remove the disconnect without breaking it?
I've been prying on it with a 36" prybar and hitting it with a 5lb sledge and some pipe for a couple hours now. I thought about throwing some heat into it but the whole area is covered in grease from the CV boot blowing up.
I have the truck running right now to get the oil hot and hopefully get the oil pan itself warm so maybe it'll release its grip on the disconnect some.
All the threads i read just say guys hit and pried on it for hours until it came off or they gave up and started again the next day and then it came apart... or they broke it in half.

yeah, fracking sucks. Amazon has it the cheapest at $398, from there it goes into the $5-600s. At least the shaft is supported by the bearing still stuck in the pan, looks like I'm 3 wheel drive until Wed.

Damn this month is not kind to our disco's... I needed another person to pry from the opposite side of the disco, and then just a few heaves, then a couple hoes, and a whole lot of swearing. Then it popped out no problem

yea, i was severely under-equipped last time i called you. And by under-equipped i mean, i had no beer. Lesson Learned. If your going out by yourself, bring extra beer as a bargaining tool

Beer also has the advantage of being a currency my wife can't spend. :friday:

Only time I got mud-stuck as a noob city slicker in the Great Borrego Sink, and a local monster truck got me out, all I had to offer was the $60 in my pocket for beer money. They seemed happy.

I think ammo is also a suitable desert extraction currency. :shoot:

I usually just go out to somewhere in Cleveland Nat Forest and blast off my 'less then preferred' range ammo

Best advice i can offer w/ guns is just like i was told by JD when i started moddin my TB. Identify your goals. What do you want the gun for? Liesure, self defense, concealment, hunting, competition, General Purpose, etc. So once thats figured out, go from there.
