4wd disconnect bearing

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

i was replacing the right side hub bearing and cv axle and when i pulled the cv axle out a lot of metal fell out of the disconnect i can see that the outer bearing is gone and im not shore of what else is wrong in side the disconnect yet and the 4wd works fine so i think the gears and fork are ok but i have not taking it off yet i will do it next week and post pic's :(

Disturbing.......There wasn't any looseness to the inner tripot joint if you wiggled it around before removing the shaft? No noise? Hmmmmm, how many miles and was this your first CV shaft replacement?

the first cv on that side with 132000 miles it did have movement when i went to remove the cv i checked the cv's about a month ago and no movement then and last week i had a bad vibration in 4wd only when i got the front tires to spin but no vibration when i drive on the highway in 4wd or 2wd

Yeah I also noticed the bearings in my disconnect have gone bad, there is play on the tripod of the axle. No noise out of mine either, just unpredictable 4wd. Scary part is I'm only at 76,000 miles on the truck. I'd get to fixing that before anything else gets worn out. There is a great article in the troubleshooting area for rebuilding it, explains everything you need to know.

i will be fixing it this coming week when the part come in the dealer had to order them i ordered all the bearings,seals and washers for now i hope the gears and fork are ok but wont know until i take it a part

just got all the parts in for the dealer so i should have it apart and all back together by the end of the week and will post some pic's then

Nicely done Joe. Other than the bearings, that looked to be in very good shape. You must have caught the disconnect before the failure went any further.
