Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

G80 ?'s

G80, GU6, GT4, GT5, WTF? This section is for gearing and driveline stuff.

I searched G80, g80, G-80, and g-80 and the site turned up no results.

I know that G80 is the Eaton locking differential, but that's all I know. I would like for someone to describe what it does and why I should want one. (when I google search I don't come up with much either)

Other questions I have :
What does it cost on average?
How easy is it to swap?

Roadie posted this for me some time ago. I'll pass it along.

Cost varies by your location. All parts for the 8" rear axle are expensive compared to other axles. You may be better off upgrading to an EXT axle if you're going to shell out the money.

The G80 has a horrible reputation for failing on other platforms. I'm part of this statistic now, as are a few others on here.
11 Silverado LTZ - 6.2L/6l80, 2/3 drop, self tuned
85 Hilux - 3RZ, dual cases, caged, 40s, chromo everything
02 TrailBlazer LTZ - 35s, lockers, balls - Gone but not forgotten - Build

Means both tires spin, not one.

FYI...My g80 will lockup just by spinning the rear by hand when it is jacked up. An easy way to check if you cant figure out if you have one.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.
