Blinker flashing fast like bulb is out...but no bulb is out?

Not on my Tb, but on my work truck. 08 2500 service body, when you turn on either side blinker, it usually blinks slow 3 times then blinks fast like you have a bulb out. But there are no bulbs out.. Sometimes it doesn't do the 3 regular blink, but goes straight to the fast blink.?

Lots of you have waaay more smarts than me on this kind of thing, so I thought Id ask.

It usually will do that if it feels like a bulb is close to burning out. I'd just replace all the bulbs and see if the problem persists

Should have put that its been this way for the 4 or so years I have been driving it. I have replaced bulbs front and rear in that time.

Are you using LED's bulbs by chance? The hyper flash is an indication of low voltage draw. I have LEDs in my turn signals but have embraced the hyperflash.

Why embrace it when you can put resistors in? Or put an led blinker relay in place of the stock one.

Ehhh, I like it. Plus, I think the rapid flashing turn signal gets more attention.

Would you still like it if I told you it shortened the life if the bulb?

I will triple check, but I know the fronts aren't. And the rear are the 3" or so circle plastic round replacements with the bulbs already in them. But I'm 99% sure I bought the dino bulbs last time

I'll check the relay, but what am I checking? If it's in one piece or what?

If its working I guess haha... Its the only other thing I can think of that would be causing your blinkers to hyper flash. I'm thinking its got to be the bulb though..

Bulbs are 5 or 6 years old, I think they are doing ok.

Touché, as long as they last longer than incandescent bulbs its a w. I just hate hyper flash, to distracting to me. I'd be staring at the blinker instead of turning.

This is correct thus you need a load resistor in line.

if something is below the amperage required, the flasher will blink like a bulb is out, you may have wiring issues somewhere. Most bulbs flashing quick because of amperage drop. By design.
If headlamps seem fine and not dim, then its more localized to the turn signal/combo switch circuit. Sometimes voltage drops can be seen sometimes they cannot. Some things run on 5v and others 12v. Try and find amperage specs and when the flasher is designed to speed up. Im willing to bet amps are dropping but enough is allowing the good bulbs to still "function".

Like I mentioned, its a service bed, so the lights in the rear may have just a small amount of amp difference than the stock tail lights??

That would make sense. My dads work truck have to have two leds wired together (one of the leds actually being visible) in order for his tail lights to stop hyperflashing... Except yours aren't leds. Might be worth it to find out what the kind of bulb you have in the blinker and compare the amperage to the stock one.

I have had a bad hazard switch cause this, also the wrong or heavy duty flasher installed.

Did you check to see if there was a sufficient amount of blinker fluid left in the flux capacitor?
