Long Range Communications Install

Breaker 1-9, anybody got a copy? Any discussion or mods relating to electrons and wires go here.

I've got no pics yet but this week I'll be finally hard mounting My ICOM externally amplified radio with w2 cables and external Harris antenna. The other side of this project is to also finally install my Iridium Sat-phone with the remote antenna puck. If anyone has any specific interest or questions feel free to ask, this will be my first install on a civilian vehicle so I'm kind of excited about it too.

I'm really interested in this since I live in Alaska and cell coverage is extremely spotty or non existent.

I'm pretty interested to see what you've put together too.

what Icom radio ?

I have an Icom706MKIIG mounted remotely in my yukon & use the ldg at700 autotuner

for mobile ops I prefer LMR240 coax

remember you can never have too many ground wires, ground everything

you are basically creating an image plane for the antenna

AA1PR, do you know what kind of range you're getting with your setup?

My HF setup provides me worldwide coverage assuming the bands are actually open

any true HF rig & good antenna will do that

are you a amateur radio op?

what are you running once again for a rig ?

The only comms ive ever worked with is army equipment. I'm not the commo guy though, just hooking it up Pretty much. I currently don't have any comms in my envoy but I've been trying to figure out what I want to run. I'm planning a trip to northern alaska where there's about 400 miles without cell coverage.
