Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Alternator fried. To upgrade or not.

Breaker 1-9, anybody got a copy? Any discussion or mods relating to electrons and wires go here.

You know its fired when the tech hooks it up to his tester, turns it on then shouts Whoa! and yanks out the leads.

I mentioned a rebuild with an upgrade to 200A. He could with no problem and he charges an additional $25 for very 25A increase in output.

Would it be worth it and how much would you bump up the output?

Unless you winch or have a huge sound system, I can't see any reason for more amps. And even winching, that can require 300 Amps or so when at max effort, requires a top post battery. The alternator contributes what it can, and the battery does the rest..A sound system that requires more than stock alternator is a diversion of $, space, and weight you should devote to offroad gear. Just my opinion.

How much more amperage do you need? Why? Keep in mind just last week your stock alternator was enough.

If you are having your toasted alternator rebuilt instead of going with a remanufactured unit, I would increase the capacity $25 worth just because more is always better.

Don't worry. A rolling boom box is not my style.
