Side mounted light

So I'd posted in another thread if anybody had any ideas on how to do this, and now I kind of came up with a way to do it. MDB can probably fab something way better looking, but I had to figure out the shape first. This is what I came up with:

And the finished result:

Amazingly strong with no vibration, and the hood remains solid.

Assuming you drill into the body to mount the light? Thats a cool idea.

He's using a fender bolt. I know this because I use the same fender bolt to mount my CB antenna. 8-)

That looks bad ass man! That's exactly how I was going to mount mine as well. Does it get in the way when the hoods open?

Mounted to the back bolt of the hood, and it's completely out of the way with the hood up or down. The real trick will be the other side where the radio antenna is. :poke:

So is the light steerable? Does it work alright when in use? I'd imagine it could glare off the hood... I assume it's too high to be road legal?

Any glare off the hood would only be seen from in front of the vehicle. You wouldn't see any from the driver's seat.

I've heard lots of people complain about glare from roof-mounted lights. Same concept. You'll always get some reflection back at the driver from any lit surface.

I haven't had it out at night yet, so not sure. Probably not street legal to drive with though, though I always turn off all auxiliary lights for approaching vehicles. It is actually a yellow light so it probably won't glare to bad. I'll get beam shots when I can. I do want it to pivot so I can use it more as a spot light, currently I was so focused on it staying on with vibration it doesn't move at all.

A friend had lights in about the same place on his Jeep, and there was no glare from behind. The roof lights will glare off the back seam on the hood and possibly the wipers. If your paint has "imprefections" in it, I could see the roof being at a big enough angle to maybe catch some of them. These will, however, reflect off the back of the brush guard and stuff, if a person has one...

those work real good around here for hunting, you don't need a buddy to hold the light for you :poke:

I'll try to get pics tonight, but there is glare off the hood. Thankfully it's a yellow light and my tinted windshield, means it's not a problem. Though it does nicely showing off how dirty my hood is. It is a wide-angle beam and would also be great for spotting the front tires, oddly enough, for night-offroading. Not sure about somebody's night hunting though.. :poke:

Yes, it is a fog pattern. Sheds light on any close situation. :slap: Here's another beam shot:
