I removed my cross brace and my plastic cover box. I think I had to - but I don't really remember.

hmmm... I guess we'll find out... Did some searching on the OS, and it would seem that people have done it, but all the threads are old, and the pictures are gone...

Hahahah looks like JD will have to do yet another write up for us to clear things up.

Its a shame that photobucket takes ur pics down after a while. Too bad they arent stored locally on the server or something.

The wife's picking one up at the local Sears auto center, after she gets her hair did, this morning... Don't even try it... It's already reserved... :finger:

I'll take some pics of what I end up doing...

It works fine with the diagonal brace, but the cover won't fit like it did before (mine is all uneven, I'll probably just take it out soon)
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

I'm not sure what universe this works in, but it ain't this one... It does physically fit, but there's no way I'd hook anything to it...

That was my conclusion even with the Optima.

It seems pretty stable as it is, but that bar has to be there for a reason... To keep the radiator core support square, maybe? I'm thinking of making a part that replaces the OEM one, but goes around the battery terminal right there...

My impression was that it buckles the fender in a heavy frontal impact. Probably added after the first round of crash testing showed the fender was a bit too strong. A band-aid, if you will.

Maybe, but who knows... Strange that it's got the piece that holds the battery tray as well, though...

That top brace has been gone on mine for 2 yrs now. It was more of a pain in the a$$ when changing batteries than anything.

I have always thought that bracket was there to keep the battery a bit more secure and to also act as a theft deterrent from someone stealing your battery very easily.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

I never had a battery box or cross brace. Hell my battery tray is broken so my battery isn't secure, its held in by a rubber bungey cord :excited:

I have it as well and I love it. Had radio blastin and all kinds of lights on for the better part of two hours started right up no problem. The Warranty is awesome too.

Got a new warranty Diehard platinum, today. It was down to 350CCA, and wouldn't come up to full-full charge. They gave me a new one, and the 4 year warranty starts over, today. The only of similar age in my K2500HD is still doing fine (It was in my sister's Max 6.0, and before she traded it in a few months ago, I gave her $75 and the older battery from my LeSabre for her Platinum. That one went into my truck, when I picked it up a few months ago.

Just some info on the battery I run, so its all in one thread.

I will not go back to a traditional battery. My AGM has impressed the hell out of me. Duracell AGM battery (78DTAGM). Rebranded Deka that is made by East Penn. Made in US with US parts.

•BCI Group Size:34/78
•CA at 32 degrees F:955
•CCA at 0 degrees F:775
•Reserve Capacity:120

Warranty

36 months Free Replacement

Features:
Superior starting power, high reserve capacity, and long lasting life, there’s no match for these intimidating AGM BATTERIES. Advanced AGM technology with dual purpose design makes it great for quick starts and plenty of competition-quality accessory power for • stereo systems • boats & RVs • hydraulic lifts • winches • on-board electronics • and many other power demands. The tight-pack plate and separator construction provides added power for resistance against hard-hitting stereo, competitive racing, or off-road wear and tear vibration. Along with a more efficient design, it also has the same case/cover configuration used by original equipment manufacturers for an easier fit into more applications. No elaborate marketing gimmicks or hold-down retrofits, just decades of experience to provide a better fit, more power and longer life.

Was about $120 at Sam's club. Has great reviews with the RV, boat, and offroad crowd. I really wanted the vibration resistance and dual terminals for the winch. I removed a perfectly good Everstart MAXX and stuck it in my dads S-10.

I had it out playing music by a campfire playing music with subs on and interiors on and prolly hit the remote to turn on headlights a dozen or more times(looking for firewood) over 3 or 4 hours and it started like it had not been running anything. I figured that would at least phase it a little, but it did not. Nothing has phased this thing.

I am quite satisfied so far. Been running it for 6 months or so and left aux lights on overnight with no trouble starting and generally it just works perfect.

I do run the crossbar and have my winch wired to the top terminals, but do not run the plastic cover.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.
