So, due to my lack of flotation capabilities, i fried my alternator. Once i had my truck back on the road, with my sound system off and just running driving lights, as well as LEDs in my headlights and Tails in place of the OEM driving/blinker i was cruising with a voltage reading as low as 11.4 and a peak of 12.4. This is VERY bad.
Now due to my power demands, i had future plans to upgrade my alternator anyway. I went to www.Powerbastards.com and ordered their 250a model for our TB. Along with this i received an overdrive pulley upgrade. This pulley is smaller in diameter which allows you to have higher output at idle.
A recommended product along with the purchase of their alt is their 0au upgrade kit. This is a 0gauge power lead off of the alt directly to the batt, including an inline fuse for safety. This excessive amperage cannot flow efficiently through the OEM wiring, you will experience a power loss which could in turn overload the alt and fry it. I first installed the Alt and noticed that i was receiving a full 14.3v only when reaching 3krpm. Was a little disappointed. At idle i was observing between 12.5 and 13.0 (as per scangauge). However, i do notice that my sub is substantially louder than in the past. The past 2 days i have been running like this.
Well this morning i was able to install my 0au power lead before work and all i can say it wow. I now idle at 13.8 and can just feather the throttle and see 14.5 effortlessly. I can now run with my gain up all the way, low beams on, high beams on as well as my roof lights and doors open and not one light was dimming from the power load. This is an incredible unit. Its so powerful you can actually hear the humming from it charging while standing next to my vehicle. Should def be beneficial for the addition of a winch.
I also upgraded to a Die Hard Platinum battery with both top and side posts.
