GWNF Explorer's Photo Journal

Discussion of photos, video, cameras, and post-processing.

by Trail X » Mon Dec 05, 2011 1:29 pm

I took another trip out to GWNF this past weekend with one of my old college friends and had a chance to try out my new DSLR. I'd like to try to keep getting out there as much as possible, and am trying to work on one of my new hobbies - photography. So I'm thinking I'll make this thread a continually updating thread instead of making a new post for every trip out there.

This past weekend, camping was cold... it got down to somewhere in the range of 15-20 F the first night, but it really wasn't THAT bad. The second night was a bit warmer at 25-30, but we had extremely powerful gusts that night, which made it feel MUCH colder, and sleeping miserable - the truck and tent rocked and rolled all night long, but at least the tent stood up to the abuse without a hitch... I kinda figured I'd wake up in a tent of rags!

On to the photo essay:

Hope you enjoyed them!

If I find some more cool ones in my post review, I'll post them up.

Feel free to delete this if your intention was to not have any replies. Anyway, those are some awesome pictures. The one third from the bottom is absolutely beautiful. Keep 'em coming. :lurk:

Beautiful pictures James. What camera did you end up getting?

The two pics i quoted above are stunning. Definitely calendar material!

The second picture is multiple shots from tripod right? It looks great.

Thanks guys. Joey, comments are welcome! Sorry if I gave the impression they weren't.

Alex, I got a Sony a33. The second shot was actually a single shot. The moon was bright enough to light up the vehicle and surroundings.

If anyone has any critical input on the shots, feel free to share!

I have a few good ones from a recent trip through the GWNF, here's one of them. I'll try to upload more as I find time to work on them.

The muzzle flashes are cool. I like how good your night time photography is getting. They all look great, I love the picture where your hung up on a rock and you can see the smoke peeling off the tire.

Might find a few more gems among the rough. I did get a nice time-lapse through the night too.

A still from the timelapse... taken at 3 am, so the moon had set already... which is why there's such a difference between this and the previous night shots.
