Now that the forum has transferred servers, it's time to really begin thinking towards the future goals of the site.

If you have any suggestions for features, or for improvements please bring them up here so we can discuss.

If you don't feel comfortable posting your ideas, as always, feel free to PM me. No idea is too small or too large.

Thanks!

It was brought up in another thread by someone, but is there anything that can be done to the search to make it a little more user friendly? If you type a phrase, say "CV Replacement" for example, it will give you EVERY post that has either word in it, and will list every post in each thread that has that word.

I know on other Vbullitin forums I am on it works different so wasnt sure if that is something that can be worked on or not. An RC forum I go on is Vbullitin and there are multiple ways to seach but it just lists the threads with what your looking for, not every post. With the large number of new members coming over from the old OS as well as other places I think it would solve alot of headache with constant reposting questions like on the OS. Wont cure all but some is better then none.

If it cant be changed feel free to tell me to go F myself.

Which search function are you using? We have two... one is the internal forum search... found in the menu bar under "search". Then we have the google custom search, found at top right.

The internal forum search can be pretty specific, able to narrow down exactly what you're looking for... for instance, titles, body, usernames, etc.

The google search allows you to search our articles and forum simultaneously.

I've always found them both to work pretty well, but please let me know specifically what issues you're running into, and we can work to improve things.

I have only used the 1 under the title. That 1 gives posts highlighting in yellow your search words. Maybe Im just doing something wrong.

Here is what I am getting here in a search

Image

And here is what I get on another vbullitin forum doing everything the same just different text of course

Image

Sorry if its a stupid idea, just figured it may make "use the search" not have to be said AS much with the influx of new members.

Ah... under "Search within:" there are 4 options.

  • Post subjects and message text
  • Message text only
  • Topic titles only
  • First post of topics only

The default is post subjects and message text. Select "Topic titles only" to get it sorted the same as your other forum.

I can look into making that the default option.

I just noticed this isnt a Vbulletin forum like I thought it was, so it may not be a possible change. This is the same forum software Im working with to start a forum for my other hobby.

Ah, you know what Chris... when I wrote that out the other day I was hurrying to get an answer out, and didn't fully comprehend your request. Your PM cleared it up.

It's actually another option in the search page under "Display results as:"

There are two options, Posts and Topics. Posts is default, but if you select "topics" it will display the results as you desire.

Sorry for the confusion before!

No problem bud. I did play around with it some and it just doesnt look possible to get the results I was talking about. Since Im working with this forum software as well, If I can come up with the way I am referring to as a mod/add on or something Ill shoot it to you or something to look at and see if it is something you would be interested in here.

Maybe I still misunderstood your request. To me, the results look exactly like the other screenshot you attached above.

Nope that is exactly what I was talking about. When I checked topics, it didnt show it to me that way. Ill try again. But I think that way would be easier for searching. But I am 1 person and dont expect a site change just for me. What do you think?

EDIT: maybe it glitched on me last time I tried that. Worked that time. That being said, I am happy checking that box if you feel other way is better for searching.

I think both methods are different tools for different jobs.

I can look into making "Threads" the default option.

Any other input from avid searchers of this site would be welcome about now.

Does anyone else favor the "topics" search? Anyone think the 'topics' method would help noobs out more?

If topics were the default it might help them not get so confused during the search.

Seeing no objection, the default is now Topics.

Also, just fixed another searching 'glitch'.

It used to be that if you tried to search for small words like "cv", it wouldn't return any results because the word was "too common". That's been fixed... so you should be able to search for virtually anything on this site and get decent results returned.

As always, if you have any suggestions, post it here, or PM me.

Also, how about a Favorites list we all could add to, having to do only with our trucks or off roading?
