They do make insulator pads, but 50-60, would be my cut-off point.

Spread coals on the ground under the hammock. Or hot rocks usually does the trick for an hour or so, depending on ambient temperature.

Don't forget about wind speed, too much and all the heat just blows away!

just build a fire under there and roast your ass...

The hot rocks trick is that they go in your sleeping bag or tent, so as long as your body is out of the wind, it should be ok.

why does it only take one match to start a forest fire, but an entire box to start a camp fire?

Why is it no matter how good I sweep out my tent, there is alway a pile of dirt in it when I set it up? Same goes for the air mattress.

It usually only takes me one match.....to light the propane torch I carry camping and use that to light the fire :-)
Actually I use a grill lighter to light the torch but you could use a match if you prefer.

Besides James homemade rooftop tent, does anyone else have one? I am strongly thinking of going this route and looking for opinions/recommendations.

I'd never seen roof top tents till James did it, then I saw quite a few examples on expedition portal.

I am finally getting around to using some of that waterproofing spray, hopefully I don't have to verify it works at TECORE. So far the weather looks to be alright.

I had a $40 tent, that I used to Scotch-Guard, every other year. I also threw a couple bottles of seam sealer at it. Never had a leak. I think I ended up using more sealer than the tent was worth, before it finally had to be retired.

Tenting in Cold weather?? Any other options besides the Rock? I got an old canvas tent from my parents and the windows don't zip up they just tie at the top... so its going to be a cold night on Drummond.

I found that a cheap futon mattress fits nicely in the back. If you don't have to worry about anyone but yourself(or girlfriend) then sleep in the truck. I think the rear seat bottom removal mod would be nice for this to make the rear more flat.

if you have to tent camp try to use something to insulate you from the ground. An air mattress gets cold on cold ground. Again a futon mattress will help.

you might try to duct tape the windows for the night, that might help a little.

What I do for cold nights? Air mattress in the tent, with an insulating roll on top of it (either foam or the self-inflating ones), then me in my sleeping bag. If it's really cold, I bring another sleeping bag to unzip and use over my main sleeping bag, like a comforter.

Make sure your bag is rated for 20 degrees colder than what you're actually going to see.

As Chris and Mike said, insulate yourself from the ground. An air mattress alone is not enough.
