ATV cargo carrier

Discussion on how to enjoy the outdoors.

by navigator » Sun May 29, 2011 12:58 pm

I was going to put this in the camping subforum but I don't see it yet.
I've been wanting one of these for awhile they have been out when I have been lately. They had one yesterday when I went to get a power inverter so I picked it up for $49.

I figure it will help me carry more cargo and for those of you that worry about ground clearance it should help with that.
It is only rated to 150lbs but I'm unlikely to exceed that. I can open the hatch with it on and I think I can stack it as high as needed and still open the hatch.

I also have one of their aluminum ones that is straight that I'm going to convert into a roof top carrier until I need something larger.

I might modify it for a front "fence". I'll use it a few times first to see if it needs any modification.

Does it work with a 2" receiver? or do you need a 2" to 1.25" converter?
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

I know that they sell them with 2" receiver on them. I have one that I will use for camping incase I need to haul more gear out there.

I used it this afternoon, with the 5 gallon water cooler and the 48qt cooler back there the hatch opened fine.

I've been using one from Harbor Freight for car camping/road trips (nor CA to central TX and nor CA to Tucson, AZ and back). Its flat (dosen't give the extra clearance) and made of aluminum. It has worked great fully loaded with probably 200+ lbs on it. It is rated to 500 lbs.

I bought the aluminum one first and have used it a lot. It is well worth the money, I think I got it on sale for $69 or so. I might convert it to a roof basket for now. It would allow me to put the tent, sleeping bags and other bulky light weight stuff up top and still fit the canoe over it if I want. I can then put things like coolers and firewood on the back rack to free up space in the cargo area.

I have used a flat one for years. Works well. I seem to use mine more for hauling tires than camping though.

I got mine to haul deer, didn't want to risk blood in the cargo area!

real rednecks road hunt... just try not to shoot a flintlock out the window of your trailblazer, it doesn't work out as well as you would hope :o
