Can we get reference links to these trails, so folks will be able to click and read up on each one.

Sure Mike, but I think TrailDamage.com Utah trails link would be better. http://www.traildamage.com/google_utah. ... 5830400000

Yeah that is ok, but you should link each one out for the retarded. Remember we can barely get folks to search here.

If the SME's, who are going, can't figure it out then too bad. For the rest of the forum we will spoon feed them as needed.

This is just an idea for the game plan. We need others to add input. Hoping you and Bill can answer where good spots for camping might be.

The three groups may inspire more people to come and enjoy this trip together.

I think the sooner we can set a game plan the better, even if it changes several times between now and then.

The only potential issue I see is that we'd need three different trail guides (one for each group). I wonder if there's a need for the sight seeing group.

There's only a couple of those trails I'm not familiar with from reading, it all looks good to me.

I agree with v7guy, and it's not like we are expecting a high turn out, we're probably best with two groups. I TECORE level group and extreme group.

Well Randy, good work taking charge, why don't you just finish up and post.

These trails are just an idea for what we may want to do depending on who comes. I agree, the sightseeing part for all days is retarded, but one of the days may be nice along with White Rim on the last day or earlier. I am not setting a schedule (yet) until others chime in form this group who plan to go. So far I think there may be 6 or 7 of us from this group have said they will go. Is this wrong?

I agree, a nice sight seeing day or two would be nice.

I think those of us that have suggested trails are largely on the same page as to what we would like to do.

I've had a fairly difficult time sorting out camping.

Do we just stop somewhere along one of the trails? Have you guys ran across any info about camping in the area?

Yeah, info on camping is hard to come by. It depends on where we are at as far as the land goes, if it's BLM, it's usually camp were ever. Some places are designated, some aren't. If we're in a NF or a NP then it can be designated, may need a permit. So it depends where we are at when we finish a trail or which trail we are on, etc. I know, not much of an answer.

At this point, I do not care where I camp. Next to a trail or wherever is fine. Camping in a camp would be nice. I hope Bill chimes in with some help and guidance along the way. I have a feeling he is sitting back laughing at us and already has the whole thing planned out.

We will also need to get the information together on permits and fees if applicable.

Sorry I haven't had time to participate much here. Real life and GMTN issues....

I prefer base camp camping, but I may be in the minority. Base camp camping reduces the weight you carry on the trails, and the setup and pickup time twice a day. It does mean you don't camp in the middle of the white rim trail, but that camping isn't to my liking anyway. There are plenty of first-come sites along the river. I used big bend cg last time. More details when I get a time next weekend.

Camping on the White Rim is kind of mhem, but the views are great. If you're setup like the Roadie or James with rooftop's it's not so bad. Camping on the ground though can be a bit problematic. Fisher Towers is a nice place, but it's also popular with climbers, might run into a number of people there.

Besides the Big Bend (23 site) first come first serve CG I stayed in, I scouted the Sand Flat BLM area, which was more open and hot that time of year. But it was the central place to explore Fins'n'Things which I did as a day trip.

Unless you carry 15 gallons of fuel, you're going to need to go into town every couple of days anyway for fuel, so base camping isn't the hardship you might think it is. The library also has free WiFi even in its parking lot after they close for the day to check email if you can't get a data cell connection. They may have improved cell coverage in town since my last visit.

The area is generally not as open for distributed camping as NF, state desert and BLM land is in CA. You just can't pull over and set up pretty much willy-nilly.

From current fellow travels on the road, BLM is getting more strict than they used to be. I keep in touch with about 4 families via email who regularly boondock and a few of them have made mention about that.

Anyhow, we need to get a sign up list going. Just post whatever we have, we can continue to hammer out finer points.

Sounds like it is becoming that time Mike.

Should you attach the sign-up portion to your global event posting?

I won't be attending this year, so whatever you think is best.

I think a separate thread would be best personally.

I was assuming it would be a seperate thread as well, just to keep the main thread with details free of banter.

I'm still around, we'll look at posting a sign-up thread tomorrow.

Working 7 days in a row plus remodeling a bathroom has me stretched for time lately, not to mention trying to get my truck back on the road, hope to pick it up tomorrow and start getting it ready for TECORE X, I get the next 3 days off then work 12hrs a day from Sat-thurs of next week.

Hate to hear you can't make it Mike, I know you've had a lot going on though.
