With ORTB turning 5 next year I thought we could try to put together a Event, maybe Moab. If we planned it early enough people could plan for it. I'm thinking Sept or Oct., 3-5 days. It would be awesome to get 20-30 trucks together.

This might not be realistic, it's 30hr plus drive for me and even more for others but I think it would be worth it. Posted this here so we could discuss the possibility before bringing it to the whole forum.

We could pick dates and make something of a trip plan before making an official planning/sign-up thread, I'd say we try to get it out by January so everyone has 9-10 months to plan, or we kill it here if deemed impossible or key members couldn't make it (Founders), on that thought it would be cool to get teebes to come out but I know it's even a bigger long shot.

Hm... I like the idea... but damn that would be an expensive trip. Not sure if I could talk the wife into it. Actually, she wouldn't come, I'm sure.

Hm... I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work... but there's a small 5% of me that thinks it could.

I would think it would quickly go from everyone being on board, to 3 weeks out it becomes a 4 member trip lol. Most guys aren't even on board with going to TECORE when they're 6-8 hours away.

I know Indiana was about 600 in fuel, I wouldn't be surprised if it would be in the range of 1500 or so. It'd be fun to take 3 or 4 days and explore/camp and it'd be cool as shit in winter to meet the west coast guys. I think for most of us it's be a week long trip.

I was thinking I'd borrow my brother's Dodge to tow my truck, and as security in case I broke something major. It is a very long haul, 30+ hrs for me, but I'd be happy to do it, but I'm a bit crazy anyway.

Well Rory, you are in good company. Matt and I traveled a pretty ridiculous distance over a very limited time and only spent an afternoon/evening wheeling. lol

I would wager that with 9 months notice I could probably get Matt (moots) to come. I may be able to get James02 to ride along since it would be an epic trip. I know with that much notice I could hit a little overtime here and there and easily make the money. The date would have to be locked in during the next three months so I could put in for the week off.

If we could get mods and admins on board I think it would help... they seem to be the most reliable group. When the commit they are serious. It'd be really nice to get the two coasts together and maybe grab a few guys from the midwest. We'd need to see James, Bill and Donny at the minimum. I know Mario and Chris have been pretty tied up with life lately. Maybe we'd get Mike (anton) and Kyle on board. Possibly the Keys Eric, and Bacon. Might drag in some locals with a decent sized group.

Sadly I think it's destine to crash and burn and result in nothing lol

You could toss it out there as the offroadtb big getaway thread and then if it gained steam suggest it be the offroadtb 5yr celebration/event/expedition... thread titles can be changed.

So many logistics. I'd have to find the right way to approach the subject with the wife. We already have a week-long trip planned for next year. Another week long trip will tax the majority of remaining vacation days. Wife and I normally like to do little trips during the year, and this would make that hard.

There's still something very interesting about the whole idea.

And I wouldn't trailer.

Neither would I

and I hear James, I've got a honeymoon/wedding in early March and then hopefully TECORE in late March/early April all while doing a ton of fab. After that this trip would take up the rest of the vacation days and probably blend into fall TECORE.

I really do like the idea.

I would trailer. Driving 1000+ miles on pavement would destroy my IROKs. Also, beadlocks.

It's about 15 hours for me. I drive a lot for work so that's no biggie. The Taco would need some extra weight handling for that distance.

I might be able to get my TB's new owners on board.

27 hours, 1875 miles of driving for me to get to Moab.

Surprisingly, my quick calculations on gasoline is about $800-900 to get to MOAB and back, not including the fuel to drive around the trails. Considering I'd try to use as few hotels as possible, I think I could get away cheaper than I expected.

Close to what I figured, just a hair further for me and I was only thinking of a hotel for the halfway point there and then on the way back. I could do this trip for ~$1500. Not bad IMO.

I moved this into the SME forum... maybe we can get some more conversation around this. My standpoint hasn't changed much. Haven't talked to the wife, and really doubt this will happen. But... maybe, just maybe.

It would be fun.

Fixed that foor you Kyle!:D

My wife is cool with this trip and my not even come if it does happen. I did not bribe her with a cruise in the Caribbean..... or did I?

Even if this doesn't happen the cruise helps with any other BS I may find I want to do.

I can't help but feel guilty bringing up a trip that probably wouldn't include her.

Now, would colorado be an alternative? Or is utah the bigger mecca.

Utah has terrain like no other state. Lotsa places have mountains.

Mrs Roadie loves it when I plan trips without her.

Something this far needs to be 4-5 nights, I'm thinking late Sept. maybe meet up on the 22-23 or 24 and stay however long and head back by the weekend and most could be back to work Monday. My schedule is flexible, So I'll go whenever is best, just throwing some dates out there.

In a heart beat with this notice.

Classic too far for many though. Too many Too's. Too bad. Running out of time for this group/platform.

What a chance though, slim.
