My wife and I decided to go out on a little drive on a week night a while back and went up Mosquito Pass again, but forgot the SD card for the camera. After a buddy of mine got a '91 cherokee, he decided he wanted to give it a little test, so the TB, Cherokee and another buddy's F-150 went for a little trail run. The night before we ripped apart the front end to change CV shafts, only to find out the front disconnect is completely shot, internally and externally. So 2WD it was Starting out i could tell it was going to be a lot better than my solo adventure to the summit last October
I wasn't able to really see the dropoffs when I came up here last fall, because of the snow and fog, but hopefully the pictures do it justice.
When we got to the top, a lady from a Jeep we let in front of us earlier ran toward us waving her hands like a crazy woman. They had been trying to pull out the Rubicon for the last half hour with a skinny little strap with cheap hooks on the end. The guy in the Rubicon said they had dug out for two hours before that, with pots and pans, and were just praying someone would come up.
Some pics from the summit...
We were planning on going down the other side to Fairplay, Colorado, but it wasn't to be. The snow was to deep to cross.
We decided we would hit Birdseye Gulch... random pics on the way down....
Birdseye Gulch...
The pics on Birdseye were taken all inside the TB from this point. My buddies decided to turn around here due to clearance/ length/tire capabilities. I decided to follow the Jeeps through after some snyde remarks about this being "Jeep Country".
Overall it was an awesome run. It was my son's and my wife's first trail ride and my 2WD TB was able to hang with the Jeeps. The only bad thing for the day was when the guys I originally went on the run with went to turn around, the cherokee slid down a slick, grassy hill that required almost two hours to extract. Time for a winch I guess. Hope you all enjoyed!
