Its not the dealer, i'd never go to them, its a local mechanic thats more than fair price wise and does stellar work. Last time i was there he was putting a crazy big blower on a 502 alcohol only BBC supposed to be making like 1500 hp at least. He's oldschool but his guys are tech savvy, he just keeps rebuilding carbs and building motors. And price wise he wanted to sell some ls6 heads to me for 300... they're worth a good bit more, but he's the kinda guy who would rather cut a break to have them as a repeat customer.

And GM has been backed up on the parts... he said its only about a 45 minute to an hour install once he has the parts.

Ohhhhh I see. I was saying that because when I first got my tb the fuel evap system went bad and every time i brought it back (3) they kept it for at least a day and then said, and i quote.. " We didn't find anything wrong..." even though the SES light was on, and I was getting about 5 MPG. They finally fixed it when the return fuel line blew apart LOL

But anyway, I'm gonna hope for the best for you getting the part(s) very soon. And sounds like you got yourself a good mechanic over there... I gotta find me one of them

If it was anything but the front suspension i would have done it myself, but this poorly designed disconnects system is beyond me.

I blew a seal and didn't realize, water got into the actuator, and becuase of that it bound the half shaft upin tha actuator ruining the splines and the actuator... it wasn't something thats a big issue just happened to me, if this was a common issue we would have heard about this from Roadie or James or someone a while ago.

I'd be down. My front diff is starting to leak on the drivers side, so I might want to take that apart and reseal before it dries out and/or gets water in it like you, Tom.

Yeah... that'd be a good idea. I'm gonna have to stay more on top of checking for fluids...

Similar to my issues. My inner CV shaft bearings seized (I'm assuming they injested water (plus, you can't check the disconnect's fluid level, it's separate from the diff)) and wore down causing excessive play. Because of the play, the engagement collar wouldn't engage.
I'm waiting on parts right now. Having to replace both bearings, trust bearings, and the outer seal.
At least... that's what happened to mine. For now I've jerry-rigged mine to be always engaged... so at least I'm not without the 4x4 option.

Oh yea speaking of fluids remember when you showed me about replacing them cv boot clamps (Me.SmithsTB), I put new clamps on them and cranked them down as hard as I could (actually broke 2 :viking: ) and I'm pretty sure they're still spiittin out grease

Assuming I keep my fluids full, and get the seals done and fluid changed before anything breaks, I'm hoping to avoid having to replace any parts.

Did you clear all of the spewed grease off of the area? If so, the boots may not be seated properly. Or they could already be torn. It didn't look like they were at the meet, but the tears quite possibly could have been hiding. Check for tears. If they are not torn, you should remove the clamps, pull back the boots, clean the grease from the surrounding areas and where the boots snugs up, and reclamp. If they have still been leaking, I would pack some more boot grease in before clamping.

On that note, I'm on my way outside into the freezing cold to go take care of this issue. I'm gonna remove my tires so I can really get in there and clean up and retighten the clamps. (Also gives me a reason to check my lugs since it's been well over 500 miles since I put them on  )
