Several buddies and I were chatting and none of us wanted to go near the stores for Black Friday. So we decided to go on a trail ride instead! We have nicknamed the ride "White Friday".

The route we took - pictured below - was in George Washington National Forest (GWNF). We took Long Run to Green River, then meandered over to VEBCO and then back out.

Normally, this is a pretty low key ride. But with 6-12 inches of snow on the ground - it was a pretty interesting day! Parts of Green River were virgin snow, but the rest of the trail had seen some traffic.

Fun side note - the power lines camping spot we were at for TECORE XI had seen some vehicle traffic, but the firewood that we left behind was untouched and still there...

That's a nice score with the wood lol

Looks like a fun trip, I've wondered what some of those trails would be like with snow

We had originally planned to camp Friday night and come back Saturday - but none of us were interested in setting up tents in snow. So we did a day trip and the firewood is still there.

The trails looked completely different! Seen them in 3 seasons now and each time it is like a new experience. Flagpole run in the snow is another interesting one - mainly the slipping and sliding around while coming down the mountain. But we didn't do that on this trip.

Good stuff Mike! It looks like fun. Did you experience much slipping in the snow, or was it pretty tame?

We were sliding around a few of the turns. And getting moving again after the stop for lunch involved some sliding too. Nothing too crazy.

But keep in mind, we were not driving super fast either. Believe it or not, coming back down Long Run was the slickest because it was the highest traffic area...

That's awesome, love the thought of snow wheeling. However, I'm not so sure we could swing that on our local trails, just for sake of ruts and holes that need to be avoided.

Loved GWNF in the snow. I prefer snow wheeling or maybe its just when I have more free time. Adds a bit of difficulty and tends to give you less trail traffic.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.
