Did a lot of exploring. All in all, probably 120 solid off-road miles, probably 30 of those new to me, and 40 or so in the dark. It was a good time, if a bit cold. The first night, it dropped under freezing almost as soon as the sun went down, and hit a low of approximately 18 degrees. The second night was much warmer, at about 35 degrees and made for some good sleeping.

All in all, we had 3 mechanical trail repairs, and one plane crash.

I will start this thread off with a picture of Dave doing his best impersonation of a tire:

Image

Post 'em up!

:lurk:

Oh - and I was able to find this one picture of the plane crash so far... no picture of the plane itself yet.

I took exactly zero pictures with my camera. Whoops.

Pretty bomb-ass fire pit.

Image

How did we get so much firewood, you ask? Here's how.

Image

We needed the wood, too. Even my 5 Gallon container of water froze partially through.

And in return for his service to this community over the years, I bestowed upon him the opportunity and honor to weld on Dirty Bacon's rig.

Also, here's a pretty good picture.

The UCA nut had to be welded back on to the frame. The weld has been broken since before Roadie and I put on my first BDS lift. It came loose again on the trail. So we cranked it down, and after everyone parted ways, i stalked James back to his beautiful house, and made him fix my shit.

You're welcome to stop back by on your road trip Bacon. I'll just have you mow the lawn and paint the house and clean the gutters and do some dishes and finish my basement.

Here's Bacon posting up as the first sentry watch for the night:

Image

There was also a homeless cowboy that kept following us around on the trails:

Image

The only extraction of the trip, only required due to a malfunctioning front disconnect:

Image

There was even a red truck in the group... (I didn't get many shots of your truck Wallace, sorry)

Image

Finally got a picture of the elusive Fugawi, in its natural habitat - blocking us from making forward progress:

Image

I have nothing witty to say here:

Nice pics of the outing, looks like a good trail run. Did the grouse wind up in someone's skillet?

No, he eventually scampered away. Not sure if anyone could have gotten to a gun without scaring it away anyways.

The bear that ran out in front of our convoy was cool too, but no picture of that one. Probably 200-250 lbs.

Here's one of my favorite shots of the weekend... Bacon really giving the Radflos a workout:

Here's some decent flexing of the Trail X:

The new mastercraft tires worked good! James didn't not even have to air down.

Nice Robert, thanks for taking that! I was really happy with those tires and the locker. That line was a line that I avoided with my old tires because they would struggle for grip.

Thanks to Jason and Dave along with James input. We were able to pull the cv and outer disconnect housing together to remove the spring behind the fork. We then reassembled the disconnect with the collar meshing the inner and outer gears and used a small rock to take up the space at the end of the plunger to keep the fork in place. 4wd worked for the rest of the weekend. Rebuild in my future.

They really did seem to work well, there were quite a few spots that he crawled up with ease where there had been some more significant application of the throttle in the past. We all know less throttle gives less opportunity for things to go awry.

I imagine they're a softer, stickier rubber, and the siping certainly doesn't hurt. Didn't James have like 50k miles on the BFGs that still had like 1/2 tread? I don't know about the MTs, but the Mastercraft ATs I've heard of lasting 30k miles, start to finish, but with good traction, so I imagine they're a softer rubber.

Here is my single contribution for the moment. I will post more pictures once I have time to edit through them. It was a great weekend and I'm appreciative for the warm welcome by all.

Quality shot Wallace. The light is great on the mountains.

Hah! Well, we do now!

Mike

I don't know the exacts, but I had basically 100k miles on two sets of BFG KM1s. The first set was in better shape at about 50% when I got rid of them, the second set was at like 30% remaining.

Its possible that they are softer. I had heard that they gave good life, but who knows.

I figured a lot of the traction had to do with the wider voids, the siping, and the wider tire. Plus, I imagine the locker and the gearing made the biggest impact. I used to have to get some wheel spin to lock the locker up, the powertrax doesn't require any, so it is much more controlled.

Yeah, it's probably a combo of all of the above. The locker probably does more than any one other thing. I hadn't seen that you had put a powertrax in it when you did the gears.
