JD are you still thinking of going to that other location farther south?

I'm torn Robert. I'm not 100% sure yet. Any opinions? I'm hoping to get a chance to go explore the new area soon, but I'm not sure if I'll even get a chance before November. I have 2 months to go explore it, but I know a good number of those weekends are already booked. My schedule kinda sucks lately.

Even if I don't get a chance to explore the new area west of Roanoke, it doesn't mean that we can't go in blind and see what we can see there and get into a little trouble here and there. The only potential problem with that is - what happens if we run into an obstacle that some can get over, and some aren't willing to attempt. Would we break up into 2 groups and then meet up later?

Third option is maybe I can plan something else if we want to do more of a trailblazer "extreme" offroad event - "TEORE" if you will. :? The only limitation is that the main trail there is closed Jan 10 through April 1.

I'm open to any thoughts or opinions.

Not that I know of. It gets more farmland and more developed as far as I've found.

The only open trail that I am aware of that is north of the Flagpole / Second Mountain area is Peter's Mill - and that is a very low key trail that I really don't recommend. The last time I was on that trail, there was about 6 inches of snow on the ground and a stock GMC Yukon with running boards had no problem with it.

There is a relatively new off road park in Woodbridge, VA called Red Cloud Off Road. http://www.redcloudoffroad.com

I have not done it yet but a few buddies have taken their Jeeps out there. The trails were pretty tough - there was at least one spot that my buddy Chip (Jeep Wranger, 2" lift, 33" tires) had to winch out of.

The park is not open to the public, but they do make the property available for special events. Registration information is on their web site.

This might be an option, but it would not be free and there aren't any other trails around it.

They do have a required equipment list - but I suspect that most of us already meet the requirements.

We will be strictly enforcing the required equipment. If you come to the gate and do not have all of the equipment, you will be denied access to the park. This is for general safety and is not negotiable. If you have any questions please call the shop at 540-999-8111/703-577-1050 or message us on Facebook.

Required equipment list for Red Cloud:

Recovery Strap (no metal hooks)
Front/Rear Recovery Points
Full Size Spare
Fire Extinguisher
Jack

Hmm.... I'm going to throw out the maybe card for now. Roanoke will definitely be a no if it goes down that road. I can convoy down with Rob if everything falls into place. Bought a new home and still trying to get settled in with stuff.

I drive a semi during the week, I want to enjoy myself on my weekend time off and highway driving is not enjoyable. Driving 3-4 extra hours further to wheel isn't exactly appealing. I understand others drive a good amount to get here as well, I'm just worried about my safety while returning to work after the trip on Monday. It's roughly 10hrs for Rob and I to get there.

That being said let the group decide by majority were the trip will be.

Well, considering the only place in NE that I've been to is Arlington Nat Cemetery... I'll just give my vote to JD to apply to whatever he finds best.

Cody, not sure if it changes your mind much, but the total additional interstate driving is only about an hour and 30 minutes.

The drive on the back roads to the trailhead, however is a bit longer after we meet in Roanoke, by about 15 minutes.

Since I'd probably be taking the envoy I'd be more inclined to want to go back to GWNF, just cause I know the chance of breaking something is relatively small and I'm not all that interested in putting another vehicle out of commission at the moment. Plus it would give James more time to shoot a set of trails, then we wouldn't be going in completely blind to a new area.

With that said I get that guys are getting bored with GWNF.

I'm fine with that and I am sure there are some offshoot trails we can explore.
