As I posted on ExPo, I have a small cabin reserved so I won't be loaded down with as much camping gear. Anyone going wants to stay in a cabin instead of a tent let me know it has a set of bunk beds that will be open. I won't make it there until that Friday morning instead of thurs afternoon cause I coundn't get thurs off. No big deal cause nothing really happening thurs anyway.

I'm trying to get a free pass to give away here in some sort of contest, It could take a few days before I know if it's gonna happen. If it does I'll figure out what the contest will be and have a few members that are not going help pick the winner. Fingers crossed!

Rory, with the rear seats folded down a futon mattress fits perfectly in there.
It will work better if you remove the seat bottoms and the headrests though.
I guess if you are tall that won't work but me being about 5'9 it would work.
I haven't slept back there yet though but I'm sure it would work.

The tent cot seems like a great idea though if you are going solo.

I got back Sunday night, tired. Both me and my truck. Not much time yesterday, Truck spent yesterday in shop recovering and I picked it up this morning.

Had a great time, great seeing old friends and making new.

Arrived Friday around 11am to check in, Classes going on so I just set up camp and by the time I ate lunch it was time for the trail rides, One to Snowbird($15) and public roads(free). I took the public ride with around 11 other rigs.

Mostly Camry rated roads for the most part with some rutted areas and some fairly deep water crossings. At one water crossing a guy got out to take pics of the trucks crossing and almost stepped on a snake, lucky it was already dead we took some pics and went on to a turn around with a hiking trail. Someone said it was only 1000ft to the falls for a great veiw and some pics. 1000ft my ass we walked all the way down the mountain, a few guys turned back not knowing it was onlt 50yds to the waterfall. Got to the falls with Brooks and Chase(the only two others that went all the way) Brooks was having trouble with blurry shots and I was trying to figure out what my camera was set on getting bettter shots and at this point I accidentally reformated my SD card so my pics start at the falls, I'll post up others as I find them from other peoples post on ExPo.

The falls

The hike back up the mountain just about killed me, or at least thats how it felt.

Trail ride start about 1:30pm and we ended it in Murphy around 7:30, a few of us knew we didn't feel like cooking that night so when someone said pizza and beer we were in! Got back to camp in time to see last 20 mins of video "One Crazy Ride" looked good and will need to buy so I can watch the whole thing. Trail guide for the day builds RC rock crawlers so he got them out a hit up the rock garden. I hit the showers and went to bed....Then got up and quickly got my rainfly on the tent cot as it started to rain!

Overexposed so I had to do some work on the pics to make then presentable

Someone pulled an old ramp out and played a little

The Ambulance was there, it caught on fire, something to do with brake cleaner on the starter. They worked on it all weekend and had it running Sat night but I never saw it move.

This yellow Land Rover belongs to "That Guy" he shows up to most events and knows everything in this pic he is in the
rock garden he wouldn't listen to his spotter, His spotter was that nights presenter of his trips including the 98 Camel Trophy(4th place), then he was a total ass to Steve from SouthEast Overland when he offered help, lucky they didn't leave him in the rocks. Tried and finally managed to winch out hooked to one of the smallest rigs there.

I skipped the trail rides on Sat. and hung out at camp, sat in during the international travel class and enjoyed some Ginger Beer NA. Dinner was from Rib Country in Murphy and it was some good BBQ. Got hit in the face by a flying T-shirt...

Sunday: the challenge

Most did this in two person teams
My teammate had a Toyota FJ Crusier

First up Rodeo

They tie a rope to a trash can and you have to drive around it rapping the rope until you reach the knot in the rope, then toss the rest in the can, 5 point bonus if the rope doesn't hit the ground. We did this in my truck because of it's turning radius, Most did this side by side and when they got close to the can the driver couldn't see it... so he sat in my backseat and we were both on the same side, was not timed so no bonus for being the fastest :(

Next Tech inspection

Recovery strap- check
First aid kit- check
2 D-rings - only one
Fire extinguisher- Fail
GVWR- off by 1000#s and it's on the door sticker :wallbash:

Then the course

Drive down the hill, through the trees, then the mud pit, back up to the rock garden for a small section and back to start, while the passenger holds a bowl of water. Points for water left at end.

This is where is gets funny, I got first and only lose a little water, then no one could follow me through the mud with the water still in the bowl and most couldn't get through the mud at all! They let them go through a smaller mud area. The mud was great fun, doubled by people in Land Rovers,Land Crusiers and Jeeps trying to figure how a "TrailBLazer" made it and they couldn't! I did not go back in the mud as I wouldn't make it through again either! I went first a dug a nice hole for everyone to get stuck in.

The Mud

Doesn't seem like much but

Last was triva

We placed third, fist place got a year of Overland Journal, Second go a set of Warn lights and we got Overland Journal hats!

the pick of the jeeps in the mud were not part of the challenge, the white one belongs to The Swiss, who organized this whole thing, he had make it through the mud and wanted to try again. 35's and locked he didn't get through the massive hole make by all the trucks that got stuck, the black Jeep took the small mud and came back to try this after the challenge was over.

A few pics on the way out
