They gasped the first time I got it dirty... Then fainted when I came home with scratches... Pff, City slickers...

Very nice, I always love offroading in snow! Probably one of the coolest things I've seen is the ice breaking when going through a deep water pit with first traxs.

One lesson learned on this trip; always leave phone numbers for other members to be able to check in with you if need be...

Case in point:

We made that run in one day, drove home, I didn't have internet at the time and Alex's internet was dead for about a week and a half. My mother finally called me one day about a week later, "Get on that website and tell those people you're still alive"....

:?:

Stole my brother's internet and checked in and, holy crap! They had the EPD,EFD, and Conservation Dept. about to manhunt for us... :slap:

Yeah, I remember being one of the worried ones, but didn't call the authorities. Being without Internet for a week only happens rarely anymore in a person's lifetime, unless they're consciously avoiding it or are prevented by disaster, remoteness, or the like.

SPOT beacons are great, and the one I have reassures the spouse, friends and on-line buddies even if you don't use it to call for help.

The SPOT is super cool for many reasons. It would be neat to see Roadie write something up about them. Hard to imagine that technology is available and not everyone uses it.
Roadies Spot map on line, on the day before Thanksgiving, if down loadable would be really neat in a 'Completed Run' forum.

Where were you two years ago when I announced it:
   TrailVoy Thread

Cost is one deterrent. $50-150 for the unit, and $100-150 a year for the service.

Anyway, my GPS breadcrumb tracks are much more useful than 15-20 minute granularity of SPOT tracking messages, but I'll consider a screenshot for trip reports.
