I would strongly recommend aiming for the next weekend, the 16th, due to the New Moon I've arranged to be on the schedule then. ;) If you're going to camp with us. Borrego Springs was designated as a Dark Sky Community by the Int'l Dark Sky Association (my expedition shotgun partner Paul is on their board of directors). Spectacular Milky Way like you might not have seen it before!

If you want a day trip introduction, we could do that the previous weekend.

We do 1, 2, or 3 day trips. The quad is useful only inside Ocotillo Wells OHV area, while we usually go inside the State Park boundaries, which is 10 times larger acreage, but only allows licensed vehicles. And you'd be alone on the quad unless you were with a group in the OHV area. Time to choose which hobby to run with that weekend.

By next weekend, I meant the next OCTOBER weekend. Sept is still too hot to sleep in the desert.

Nice pic.

Borrego has 500 miles of street-legal trails. I still haven't driven them all. But I know where every vault toilet is in its 600,000 acres.

That is definately something you need to know if you want to tread lightly!!
You think this place would be baja bug friendly? It is legal and all that.

If it's street legal, it's legal in OW. I think you should be fine on the majority of trails, too.

Do you trailer it out w/ your TB, or?

Well I have many ways to get it out! LOL.

First there is this trailer, with room for two quads, some gear, gas and a little fire wood.

Then there is my dads trailer, might fit two bugs, not sure tho havent tried.

Then this trailer, with room for nothing, but its the lightest.

Or there is the good old towbar, which is the scariest methid, but also the easiest. there is a good story to go along with that too!

But they all can be towed by the tb if my dad doesnt go with me. Which he wouldnt for this trip.

I'm planning on it. It's also the weekend for what used to be a gigantic fund-raiser for the Paralyzed Vets I went to in 2005 when almost stock - Operation Desert Fun. Raffle on Sat night. Organized runs Sat during the day.

Link: http://www.cal4wheel.com/index.php?opti ... Itemid=240

$35 a vehicle to register. We don't have to be part of the organized thing if we camp elsewhere like Hawk Canyon, but there will be a lot of vehicles out there, mostly in Ocotillo Wells, not in the State Park.

Been to Bishop (area) a half-dozen times. Have you seen my Sierra Nevada expedition reports over on the OS? I really need to move them here. Where you going to be?

Can't say I've seen them yet, but going over to read them now :friday:

I'm not too sure where we're going to be... I'm hoping to head up around Aspendell area and do some long overdue fishing and hiking out of North, South, and Sabrina lakes, but I'm not planning the trip... just along for the ride... my gf's mom and her bf are taking their motorhome up there, not sure if they're towing the XJ behind or not, and I'm driving the TB of course. I may see if I can't find any interesting places to go from your reports, but I'm not as well-equipped as I'd like to be for recovery, so I'm only going to be on mild trails/fire roads if anything.
