Oh nooo! :slap:

No decent alternative yet... unless you're going to remove your front bumper facia and do a bit of fabbing.

We'll throw him into deep sand as a demo, remove the bumper cover, wrap a tree saver strap around the bumper reinforcing bar and air bag sensor cross-tube, and drag him around like a trophy fish.

Whatever you do, DO NOT do what I did my first time out with a jeep club with Roadiemobile Rev 1. Bolted these to my radiator skid plate, whacked into a small lump, and pushed the radiator shroud into the fan, stalling the fan clutch. Had to get it tugged back into position.

yep... just read that thread on the OS. It's a constant reminder to all of us that even the almight Roadie was once, a long time ago, a noob.

The spare is a Black six spoke, not the same as stock. Can't get a pic at the moment, it's stored underneath the trailer since it has plenty of clearance :D

According to Google Maps, it's 200 miles from Camarillo...190 or so from Thousand Oaks... But it's not on traffic-ridden roads for the most part, so it shouldn't be so bad.

On the subject of the trip, looks like I'm shucking the bumper cover for the trip, and bolting some recovery hooks to the TOP of the cover... What are your recommendations on how much I should be spending on the hooks, and where to get them? I already know to use grade 8 or better hardware.

Thanks, but looking even cheaper... the wallet has really puckered up these days... and I don't need to go with stock ones if I'm gonna not be running the bumper cover.

Totally understand, on both accounts. Does explain why you walk that way. :raspberry:

So where than are you going to buy after market? And make sure they are chrome. :thumleft:

Ya know, someone done in your area may have one or two lying around on his garage floor or in a box under a bench. :poke:

So I suppose we can tentatively pencil in the trip for Nov 24th and 25th. Did you guys want to put this up on the OS as well? Or did you want to make it an ORTB exclusive?

I have the ones in my noob picture, if you promise to not mount them in the same spot. Can bring them to the desert, and they come with bolts. Not certain putting them ON the bumper reinforcing sheet metal is optimum, though. If you remove your bumper cover, we can always tug you by wrapping a chain around that cover at the frame rail ends.

If there are any OS offroaders in the vicinity, invite them here, I recommend. We need a worthy 100th member, and we're at 99 now.

In that case, I'll just wait until I can get the stock ones or get my aftermarket bumper and do it properly. As long as I'll be able to be recovered :finger: Only other somewhat local OS offroad guy I can think of is NickNorie, and he's already on here... though, I haven't seen him here on this thread.... :viking:

OK to change the thread title to be Anza-Borrego instead of Big Bear?

Thanks for the PM and thanks for thinking of me for this trip!! Being as your dates are Tues and Wednesday, I could probably come out during the day for a couple hours. BUT it is mandatory that I find some tires before then. I have a trip to go on the weekend before and im going to our family ranch for thanksgiving, so it sounds like I will be in the desert alot this month :excited: :excited: :excited: :drive: :drive:

Here's the area map:

http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/638/files/ABDSPmap.pdf

I'm going to nominate my favorite central location - Hawk Canyon - for a base camp, off state route 78. Can include more details about how to get to it later. Not an organized campground, so you have to be ready to poop in the sand with a trowel, or pack it out. I have a PETT toilet, but the bags cost $2 each. I can most likely get there Monday night to snag the best part of the canyon for the group.

For Tuesday arrivals, I propose to not go right to Hawk Canyon, but meet in the town for a final fuel-up. There's 500 miles of trails, but two days is plenty for the best ones. The center of town has a large traffic circle called Christmas Circle - perfect for the meet-up and there's cell coverage (Verizon at least).
