Michael, have you considered big bend in TX? Might want to look into stopping there. I have seen some great images from that area.

As for hotels, hard to say. You can sometimes get better deals booking ahead. We also ran into issues where we almost couldn't find any (nice) rooms at one point in the trip - ended up going for a $200/night room (we were looking for something sub $100)!

Look on your schedule, if you're pretty sure you'll hit the location, book ahead. If there is worry, don't.

What I do sometimes is see where I'm going to be near, and if it's a big city, Priceline something up on the smartphone. Best score was a $200 rack rate Hilton for $40. Business location was empty on weekends.

Otherwise, Motel 6 is reliable.

I was thinking he could price line a few cities on the way. If you are only staying one night by yourself the location and how nice the room is isn't as big of a deal.
when I have been tempted to use priceline usually we are going somewhere with the family and you want to know where you will be(on the water etc) and how big the pool is etc.

I'm moving to a small town 40min north of Orlando called Clermont. And hell no. I'm not getting rid of my rig. Living in FL will allow me to do more building and less wheeling. Living out here, I had the luxury of going almost every weekend and even a few times after work. Not much wheeling in FL, so I'll be able to, w/o temptation, leave my truck disassembled over a few weekends to better mod and build it!
Jeff, you better let me know when you come down!

Picked up my 89s yesterday. Going over to Roadie's house on saturday to put them on.
Today going to change my oil and rotate my tires before the big drive! It's getting so close! Can't wait!

After the Great Pinyon Adventure, I notice Michael asks me once in a while to help with a plan. He still managed to go get stuck in snow on Santa Rosa Mountain, though - a run that I hadn't signed him off on. I owe him some maps with GPS bread crumb tracks of some of my memorable runs.

Well, I couldnt find out how to embed the map into the posting. So heres the link.
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1468778
And please note that the order the map shows the trails, is not correct. Please just notice where it added "Trail Start" waypoint then it goes SE then N. Each campsite is also marked as a waypoint. That program was rather frustrating to set up the trail. But there it is.

I thought you were going to hit more than just Borrego.

But there's so much in Borrego! I looked into big bend, but I'm taking the 20 up to DFW area, so thats pretty far out of the way. Also i dont want to get shot by the Mexican Cartel.
Also my a-driver dosen't have as much time off as me. She has 13 days off... I have 51 days off... Plus she said that 4 days of camping is pushing her outdoorsy limits. (I'll train her eventually)
So we comprimised. I told her I'd plan the first 4 days and if there was any place she wanted to hit between CA and FL then she can plan those.

She agreed to 4 days in a row? Wow!

Compromise is good when it comes to big trips. Sounds like you're attacking it correctly.

I always try to bite off more than I can chew.

Glad to have JD's stamp of approval!! :woot:
Yea, i was proud of her for agreeing to 3 days w/o a shower. I told we'd have plenty of baby wipes... apparently she dosen't consider that a shower.

Anyone wishing to be on my recipient list for the SPOT beacon, please either post e-mail or PM me your e-mail.
If your're wondering what a SPOT beacon is, it's a GPS transmitter that can send custom messages to preset e-mails/cell numbers. These messages will include "Check in/OK", "Help", or "SOS". The SOS message goes directly to SAR/911 services.

I will post the link to the constantly updating map, so you can just watch my progress form there. (Set up to "tracking", it updates every 10-15 min)

Also, Bill... Whats the max jurisdiction of "Roadie Recovery Service"? :poke:
