Another fine day in TSF.... today with about 4-12inches of slick mud everywhere. It was impossible to walk in places.

What did you do Donny?

Lets see who can guess. Gotta be something not fixable on the trail... and not easy to replace. So I'm guessing transmission.

My guess is front diff grenaded... Possibly engine ran without oil and grenaded on steel incline? Or a combo? Front diff grenaded and put a hole in oil pan?

Not nearly so spectacular. The truck runs and can self propel (in both 2wd and 4wd).

Close enough on the first one. My problem was actually twofold, and the initial problem caused my SECOND tie rod failure of the day... and I was out of spares.

Not sure if it's the control arm or just the camber plate, but my tire is pushed back nearly 2" and touching the firewall. Did I mention I was in the middle of a twisty trail when this happened?


Here's the tool we fashioned to get me down (backwards). That's a pickle fork, hi-lift handle, and normal jack handle duct taped together. We slid that onto the knuckle and two guys controlled that wheel while I was pulled down backwards.

Finally got the extraction videos. Moral of the story: Don't wheel on your last trail spare.




...and loading onto the trailer. Jeff (the guy on the trailer winch) is hilarious. :mrgreen:

The pickle fork tool was brilliant. Too bad it was being misapplied during the trailer ramp period and kicking the tire was the only tactic that worked.

I use that pickle fork for so many tasks on my truck. I used it once the truck was home to change the LCAs out.

Ugh tie rod ends....... Hows the shafts holding up with the locker? I am really thinking about getting a locker and i know you wheel as hard as i do.
