Busy as well, but HAD to get this story out. You guys should have stayed Sunday night. Nobody else in the campground, and when we packed and started to drive off this morning, a nice sweaty young woman in lycra climbing pants came running down the main road. Said she needed to see if anybody could give her a jump start about three miles away. She and her girlfriend had been climbing rocks and camping way north of the main trail - car wouldn't start. Nobody was anywhere around on a Monday morning except us (Paul my college housemate and me).

hehe.

Yeah - Penthouse Forum story, you say.

So we don't have a seat to spare, but she rides back on the roof, talking to us through the sunroof. We meet her GF on the way back, and she rides on the passenger rock slider, holding onto the Jeep grab handle and leaning in the window in Paul's face. Back at camp, they have a 1999 Beemer 528i, 230K miles, and a dead battery. We jump them (the BATTERY - get your heads out of the gutters.... :finger: ) and follow them back to pavement for safety.

Sort of makes up for the last night in the tent being at 26 degrees. :coffee:

Ah... looked like lumber. I guess that can be used as firewood.

There's a decent story behind the lumber, but Nick should tell us about the origin. It's about 300 pounds of left-over 6X8 or 6X10" pieces, I think. The first night, we plunked one chunk on the fire I started with some smaller wood. In three hours, it was only 1/3 consumed. Ick. So next day we broke out the axes to split the stuff - one wasn't too sharp. Another was sharp enough, but was from Harbor Fright, and we broke the handle after an hour or so. I was carrying an electric chainsaw for limbs that would have been laughed at by structural beams like this stuff.

All in all, Nick's contribution of wood saved us $50-60 of buying it by the bundle, but splitting it was the challenge.

The rules in this national forest were the fires couldn't be more than 12" above the lip of the fire tub, and the campground host lady was very stern about warning us not to make a HUGE ASS bonfire with the roofrack full of wood because she thought we might have been huge ass bonfire morons (HABMs) or something. She came by later and said we had a nice OK size fire, so she was worried for nothing.

For anybody interested in doing this with your pictures, the effect is called "tilt-shift photography." I did it afterwards digitally.
