In the next few months i will be working on a new design that will be ORTB exclusive.

The new kit will eliminate the factory upper mount and at the same time give close to 3" front lift.
Pics will be added here and comments or suggestions are always welcome.

Kyle will be the first to test the new design when ready. I sent him pics of the prototype plastic sample
from my phone yesturday.

Welcome Mark!

I'm guessing it's something that has the upper spacer already built in?

Some independent R&D that I did that may (or may not) be helpful:

Thanks!!
Its been a while since my last visit here, mainly due to my move to Florida and a busy work scheduale.
Not sure if i can even post this since it is a type of advertisement??

Yes the new design will eleminate the 1/2" spacer that is atop the strut mount.
I have one piece machined out of plastic for ease of machineing and to make easy changes as needed.
Billet aluminum is readily available to me..haha.. so some mounting concerns i have will be posted later this week for suggestions.
I know a couple engineers here that might have some input..

Maybe Kyle can post up the pics i sent him, my phone didnt come with the correct cord...

No problem posting this here. If you're interested, we can instate you as a vendor. If you want to go so far as getting a banner made, read the rules in the vendor section and either contact Gordinho80, or send me a copy of a banner you've already made. Again, the banner is free.

Looking forward to seeing your idea.

I'll definitely be following this thread closely, as I'm going to be looking to lift something in the first quarter of 2011. :coffee:

Welcome back Mark! Very interested in this, especially because I'm not going to be going the spring mount since I won't be having a front-mounted winch. Still running your 2.5" lift, and it's going strong, so keep up the good work!

+1 Welcome (back) Mark.

What do ya'll think of using some limiting straps up front as we continue lifting help minimize danger to the CVs when at full droop?

Excellent idea. the CV joints are my main reason for worry in the lifting aspect. Everything else can pretty much be taken care of with new control arms and longer strut assemblies.

With limequat's new oil pan design, a differential swap/drop is becoming a more distinct possibility for those of us who don't want to SAS yet.

That's exactly what I was picturing in my head.

Mark I bet you could sink the center section where the strut bolts in a bit more. That would give a little extra extension since we're stuck with one length of strut currently.

Thanks. thats the input i need !!
The step is currently 1/2" to take the place of the spacer that goes with my other kit.
I kinda figured that anyone that upgrades to the new design that has flipped UCA`s could use the 1/2" spacer from the old kit. :coffee:
Sorry about the crapy cell pics, i will get better pics soon..with dims.

Not sure if i will use through bolts for mounting to the frame,, or use m10 threaded inserts in the solid billet..

Looks like the most difficult thing will be the top bolts and ensuring that the shock mounting plane is strong enough when made of AL (assuming that's the material of choice).

You're considering drilling and tapping the top mounting bolts? They could possibly be through holes, but you'd have to have a counter bore at the spring side in order to hide the bolt head from the spring. But then how do you keep the bolt from turning when you're installing it on the vehicle? Would have to be a hex counter bore.

Why not drill and tap straight through, then install the bolts from the top? You could have over and 1.5" of thread mesh then. That's plenty strong even in aluminum.

It's really not that hard to get the holes to line up... just a little creative jacking under the LCA.
